The environment agency is currently recruiting for contact centre operators to join a small team in their Sheffield Office (located just off the parkway). This is a 24/7 hour contact centre so shift patterns will fall across Monday- Sunday and include shift pattern at all hours.

What will I be doing?

You will be a member of the incident hotline handling calls from the public who are wishing to report on incidents such as*:

  • damage or danger to the natural environment
  • pollution to water or land
  • poaching or illegal fishing
  • dead fish or fish gasping for air
  • main riversblocked by a vehicle or fallen tree causing risk of flooding
  • flooding from any river, stream, canal, natural spring or the sea
  • incidents at Environment Agency-regulated waste sites
  • illegal removals from watercourses
  • unusual changes in river flow
  • collapsed or badly damaged river or canal banks

Typical qualifications and experience:

  • Five GCSEs at Grade C or above or equivalent (including English Language or equivalent)
  • NVQ Business Administration Level 2 (or suitable clerical experience)
  • A good knowledge of and experience in using Microsoft Office
  • A good level of keyboard skills
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written

*Training will be provided

This is a customer service role handling calls directly from the public, candidates should be aware callers may be distressed.

Please note, this is a 12 week fixed rota, you will be required to work Saturday and Sunday and it will be 6 weeks on and 6 weeks off)

Due to the location of this site and the shift patterns of the work candidates that can drive are desirable
