Product Design & Value Added Engineer
Akton Recruitment are on the lookout for a Product Design & Value Added Engineer for a company that is the acknowledged technical leader in the design and manufacture of flame arresters for a world-wide customer base. The business is headquartered at Holywell near Chester where their principal engineering and manufacturing facilities are also located.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
* Develop product concepts and schematic designs into final products ready for manufacture prior to launch of new ranges. Particular emphasis on cost control and design for manufacture.
* Advice on selection of components from the existing stock range for the production of prototypes.
* Continuous value added reviews for both existing and new products.
* Design of new products to support efficient manufacture, including producing manufacturing drawings of both components and finished products.
* Minimise the number of components by using standard components where possible
* Completion and maintenance of product technical file drawings of both components and finished products.
* Issue and maintain production work instructions.
* Work with the product development team (eg product testing) to establish product performance data.
* Provide holiday cover for the Product Engineer in terms of generating BOMs and routings.
Person Specification
* Able to produce component and assembly drawings in Autocad and Solidworks.
* Experience of basic practical work (eg spanner, reading gauges)
* Understanding of workshop manufacturing processes.
* Experience of working in a quality critical environment (eg ISO 9001 system)
* Good communication skills, especially written.
* Able to identify and implement product design improvements (eg component rationalisation, design for reduced assembly times etc)
* Able to work both alone and as part of a wider team.
* Degree or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline.
Conditions
* Working hours 8:15am to 5pm Monday - Thursday, 1pm Friday finish
* 2 weeks (rising to 5 with service) holiday per year plus public holidays
* Contributory Pension Scheme (matched contributions)
* Salary circa GBP35,000 pa
