CAD Engineer/Technician (2D & Solidworks 3D)

We have a new contract role for someone with strong CAD skills combined with manufacturing experience, ideally involving mechanical components and assemblies. The role will be full-time for a period of 12 months.

Advanced Plastic Technology are a long-established manufacturer of custom plastic components and assemblies located in Milton Keynes. Our turnover exceeds GBP1.5 million and we employ 16 people. All staff are based in our 13,000 square foot facility.

We offer various plastic machining and plastic fabrication services to our customers. We have over 200 active customers who span a wide range of industries, including industrial equipment, lab equipment, automation systems and other commercial applications. Some of our customers are blue-chip multinationals and others are small niche manufacturers employing only a handful of staff. Variety is the hallmark of our work.

Work days are Monday to Friday. We have some flexibility on the work schedule so start/finish times will be discussed with the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

Your primary tasks will be:

* Interpreting customersupplied drawings, 2D models and 3D models and creating machine-ready dxf files for manufacture.

* Quality checks of machineready files created by other team members.

* Maintenance & modification of exiting machineready files

* Creating and maintaining production documentation support

You will also be tasked with other responsibilities. You will have the opportunity to define what these other responsibilities are, depending on your interests and skills. This can include:

* Production support and control

* Production problem solving

* Driving the evolution of our drawing control procedures

* Quality control, including root cause analysis and corrective / preventive actions

* Input on the design of products and assemblies for our sister company

* Communication with our customer's engineering departments, including design advice

* identifying and defining production methods based on customer component & assembly design

* identifying best drawing practices and establishing these through the organisation

Skills

With a large number of customers and a database more than 25,000 parts the candidate will need the following skills:

* Computer literate

* Windows 10 computer operations

* Understanding of directory structures and file extensions

* File Explorer tasks including search

* Use of MS Excel

* Use of email software

* Highly organised

* Ability to handle a large number of tasks at any one time

* Ability to adapt to changing work priorities

* Ability to work with the support of your colleagues when you need it, but without close supervision

Experience

We require Solidworks experience in a work setting. Ideally this includes parts (including multi-body parts), drawing environment, assembly environment. Experience with the sheet metal module would be helpful as would experience of importing 3D models from other software.

Desirable experience includes:

* Mechanical component design and manufacture

* Assemblies and Bill of Materials

* machining operations

* sheet metal fabrication operations (or sheet plastics)

* assembly operations

* drawing control processes: revision control & ECN

Education

An engineering-related qualification is required
