Job Introduction
BBC Scotland's news is looking for a Sports News Correspondent who can bring something different to the world of Sports News. They will become a key figure in our family of on-air faces, providing authoritative storytelling, creative treatments and a raft of original stories to the programme.

The Sports News Correspondent will be a key role, covering stories from across the sporting spectrum, but also expected to lead our original journalism, and occasionally travelling to big stories in the rest of the UK and abroad.

"This role is being created as part of the investment in the nine o'clock news programme on BBC Scotland's new TV channel, which is due to launch next February. The successful candidate will have a focus on this programme, and across all our other news outlets on TV, radio, website and social media.

The nine o'clock news (subject to Ofcom approval) will be an hour-long week-night news programme (with shorter bulletins at the weekend), featuring the best of Scottish, UK and international journalism with the needs of a Scottish audience at the heart of everything we do. We aim to attract a new audience to the BBC, and to combine the best of BBC talent with some new faces.

Role Responsibility
The Sports News correspondent will provide sports news reports, live inserts, and video and audio material, to BBC News programmes and services in Scotland. It provides content across television, radio and digital which is of the highest possible editorial and technical standard.

You'll be a key member of the team, breaking and reporting on major sports news stories. You will also be required to generate and pitch original stories, as well as distil and explain often complex stories and issues connected to sport for a general audience.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the sports news agenda and be used to working on the most complex of stories. You'll be able to explain those stories in a clear, informal and warm manner to the audience. You will be an accomplished package maker and really comfortable with live broadcasting both in a studio setting and on location.

You will need to make all of your stories distinctive and fresh for output which needs to stand out from the competition. We aim to put all of our best journalism on digital platforms, and you'll be required to create great digital content alongside your TV/radio pieces.

Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will have extensive broadcasting skills with the ability to engage the audience with creative storytelling on complicated and important stories across all platforms.

You will have good knowledge of sport and an understanding of the workings of sport away from the field of play or a demonstrable ability to acquire the necessary knowledge for the role.

Our correspondents have the ability to provide in-depth analysis and explain complex stories to our audience. You will have strong editorial judgement with the ability to make sound decisions in a pressurised 'live' broadcasting environment with strong journalistic background with a demonstrable track record of breaking stories.

You'll be able to adopt an informal, conversational tone in your reporting, and establish good onscreen relationships with the presenting team. You will have endless ideas for creative storytelling techniques to make sure our journalism is unique.
