Personal Assistant/Support Worker

The HR Dept. is working on behalf of one of our clients to recruit a number of Personal Assistants to support a young man living in the Cambridge Community.

An exciting opportunity exists for Care Workers to work alongside our friendly and supportive team to provide enabling care and support to a young man living in his own home and very much part of the community.

Various shifts are available for full time, part time and flexible working.  The main responsibilities, in addition to providing quality support for a fulfilled, fun and productive life, include some personal care, support with daily life skills inside and outside of the home, promoting choice and independence and some domestic duties to ensure the smooth running of the house.

Key Duties
"    Assistance with all personal care and dressing. Enabling the Employer to achieve his specific clothing requirements in terms of sensory feedback and security.
"    Ensure all personal care support is carried out in line with the needs, wishes and preferences of the individual.
"    Non-invasive support of the employer while he is walking around, i.e. to maintain independence while also ensuring a safe environment.
"    Assistance with functional transfers, giving verbal, and on occasion, physical prompts, in order to assist with gross motor planning skills.
"    Close monitoring of seizure activity and any necessary medical intervention. Providing reassurance and comfort following seizure activity. 
"    Monitoring of dietary intake and any necessary intervention e.g. - administration of fluids via a syringe to prevent dehydration.  
"    Assisting the Employer to explore and engage in the world around him, with full inclusion and a can-do attitude.
"    Provide excellent communication opportunities via verbal speech, body language, facial expression and objects of reference.  
"    Supporting the Employer in a huge and developing variety of leisure, social, vocational and educational based activities, including writing his blog, attending meetings and family/social events and any other activities he may develop.
"    Provide an overall awareness of the Employer's surroundings and bring them to his attention at all times. 
"    Supporting the Employer with any physiotherapy regime that may be devised for him.
"    Supporting the Employer with any sensory integration programme that may be devised for him.
"    Providing comfort and reassurance to him at times of distress.  
"    Acting as an advocate for the Employer.
"    Assist in the daily running of the household including, laundry, cooking, cleaning and all general housekeeping duties as directed by management. 
"    Develop positive relationships.  
"    Work in line with the Protection of Vulnerable Adults (SOVA) and Whistle Blowing policies to ensure that people are kept safe at all times.
"    To be flexible and responsive at all times to meet the changing needs of the Employer and his family. 
"    To complete all relevant paperwork in accordance with company policy and procedure. 
"    You will be required to work flexibly on a support plan basis to meet the needs of the Employer and his family; this may include night duties, weekends and bank holidays. 
"    Ensure that work is recorded accurately and appropriately in line with the company requirements and that records made and personal information used is in mind of the Data Protection Act.
