Based in Stoke on Trent with easy transport links from the North West, West Midlands and East Midlands, Stoke on Trent College is the largest provider of further education in Stoke and North Staffordshire, with around 10,000 students each year on full-time and part-time study programmes, apprenticeships, professional qualifications and university-level courses. We also help thousands of local people each year to gain the basic skills needed for work, be it English and maths, employability skills or specific work-related qualifications. Could you be the inspirational, dynamic and motivating manager to provide leadership to all aspects of our English department?

As a member of the College Management Team, you will play a pivotal role in the decision making processes leading to the success of the Faculty and the wider college.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver outstanding leadership and management across the Faculty and drive high quality teaching and learning within the designated curriculum areas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To be responsible for development, monitoring, reporting, course compliance and delivery resulting in outstanding teaching and learning and student achievement. To provide Academic and Curriculum leadership in a defined area of the College’s activity through the management of the Faculty.
  • Contribute to the development and successful implementation of the College's operational curriculum and quality plans
  • To project a positive image of the College in liaising with external organisations and with all clients and customers of the College, including students and potential students, and to create business opportunities and income generation for the College.
  • Monitor and develop the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning within the department
  • Develop a flexible and innovative curriculum to drive an outstanding provision
  • Ensure the requirements of 16-19 Study Programmes are met and implemented
  • Monitor and take appropriate action in respect of key performance indicators, specifically attendance, retention, progress (value added), attainment, English and maths progress, and destinations
  • Work closely with employers to build new contacts and liaise with key internal stakeholders to create new work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for students
  • To undertake a teaching programme as cover where required

As the successful post holder, you will have:

  • A degree level or relevant professional qualification
  • A full teaching qualification
  • Extensive range of knowledge, understanding and application of curriculum development, innovation and delivery strategies in the post-16 sector
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and Prevent,
  • An ability to work as part of a management team to achieve College objectives
  • A flexible and professional approach
  • Knowledge of current curriculum issues as well as current and future developments in education, relevant to the Faculty
