Database Administrator - Career Opportunity
Due to a period of significant growth, we have an exciting new vacancy for a Database Administrator. This role will be based in our vibrant Manchester office and we require an enthusiastic individual to become an integral member of our IT Department.
Overall purpose
• As an expert in SQL server you will provide advice and guidance on systems design, writing and optimizing SQL queries and using your experience to offer solutions to any SQL server related issues.
• Provide support and be subject matter expert
• Using monitor tools (i.e. Spotlight, SQLMonitor) act upon incidents and service requests logged with the Service Desk, ensuring service tickets are resolved in a timely manner and with a high degree of expertise
• Refine physical database design to meet system storage requirements
• Install new applications and customize existing applications to ensure they are fit for purpose
• Manage security and disaster recovery of a database
• Install and test new version of database management systems (DBMS)
• Maintain database standards
• Maintain data standards including adhering to data protection act and GDPR requirements
• Work directly on business-driven projects and change requests
• Contribute to team knowledge
• Write database documentation including procedures and definitions to the Arrow WIKI
• Ensure the storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly (i.e. Redgate Backup, CommVault)
• Work closely with SQL developers

Complexity
• The systems which the candidate will be expected to develop are complex in their level of interconnectivity therefore, excellent problem determination, analytical and resolution skills are a must.
• Problems will often need to be resolved without advice directly at hand.
• The role holder will be required to input into technical discussions, helping to shape the database platform.
• Do an escalation point for any developer
