The Role:

An apprenticeship with GAP allows individuals to learn, work, earn and get qualified all at the same time.

Paid a salary by GAP you will 'earn as you learn'.

Plant Mechanics in a GAP depot repair and maintain a variety of Plant & Tools within the GAP fleet both on and off site. Our apprentices will go on to become fully qualified Plant Mechanics (Fitters) and have in the past progressed to posts such as Foreman/ Workshop Manager or General Manager of a depot. Our training programme includes time at college on a 'block release' basis of modules varying in length over a two year period, as well as periods based in the depot working with our fully qualified Plant Mechanics. Apprentices who do not stay within travelling distance of the selected college will be required to stay overnight/live away in fully paid accommodation for the duration of the college block. In total, it takes up to four years to successfully complete a GAP Apprenticeship and this will lead to the award of NVQ/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plant Maintenance

All training and related expenses are covered by GAP and the CITB and include college course fees and accommodation. Travel expenses will also be reimbursed. First year apprentices will be paid a salary ranging from GBP9,635(for under 18's who will do a maximum of 39 hours per week) to GBP10,500. This can increase to a maximum of GBP19,000 during the course of your 4 year apprenticeship for a 42.5 hour week (full time hours).

Working hours are Mon - Fri, /1700.

We are currently seeking keen and enthusiastic, individuals with a logical and practical approach. Applicants will preferably have, or be working towards, nationally recognised qualifications (Scotland - National 4/5, England/Wales - GCSE) in Maths, English and a Technical subject. E.g. Science, Technology etc, but if not, don't worry, as these can be completed as part of your Apprenticeship.
