What's involved?

We are looking for a volunteer to support our Singing for the Brain?? group in Bridgnorth. Singing for the Brain?? provides a structured group session for people with dementia and their carers, designed around the principles of music therapy and singing.

You will be part of a team of volunteers who support the group leader to deliver the session. We are looking for a volunteer who can help to set out the room and to clear away afterwards (including moving tables/chairs). You will also be talking to people with dementia and their carers, making and distributing refreshments and supporting people to engage with the singing session.

Singing for the Brain?? in Bridgnorth takes place on Thursday afternoons at St James Hall, Lodge Lane, WV15 5DD. This is a weekly group that runs in ten week blocks throughout the year.

The role will suit you if you...
  • Have experience of and an interest in music and movement
  • Know about, or are willing to learn about, dementia and its impact on people
  • Are committed to inclusion and treating people from all backgrounds with dignity
  • Enjoy meeting new people, demonstrating empathy and compassion
  • Have good verbal communication skills especially face to face
  • Recognise the importance of confidentiality and can show this in practice
  • Are comfortable volunteering as part of a team of volunteers and employees
  • Are prepared to complete any necessary initial and ongoing learning, and attend future support meetings.

You will be part of a team providing people with dementia and their carers the chance for social interaction in a safe and supportive environment. Your involvement aims to help people feel less isolated and to experience an enjoyable activity helping towards their feeling of wellbeing.
