Job title & Department: Shop Manager (Hessle Road, At Home by Dove House Hospice), Retail Department

Hours of work: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week (to be worked 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis (this may include Saturdays and Sundays) Daily hours
08:45 – 17:15 (1 x 1hr unpaid break)

About us:

Dove House Hospice is a charity providing excellent care for people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire with life limiting illnesses. We are specialists in palliative care which is the total care of patients whose illness is no longer curable and for whom the goal must be quality of life.

Job Summary:

This role is an integral part of the Dove House Hospice (DHH) Retail Division. Working alongside the Retail Management Team and colleagues from shops based around the region, collectively your work will fund approximately half of the full running costs of the hospice.

You will need to be great at customer service and salesmanship, have an eye for merchandising and be focused on achieving targets and raising the maximum amount possible from the goods that are donated to us.

As the face of DHH in your community, you will embody the hospice values: United you will be passionate, positive and professional. You will also work to the 10 retail principles at all times and will ensure your shop’s team of staff and volunteers do the same.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for the efficient and effective day to day management 10,000+ square foot superstore retail outlet – this may be split over multiple floors.
2. Be the main keyholder for the store, attending emergency call outs as necessary and allowing access to the emergency services, contractors, etc as required. This may involve working outside normal hours.
3. Responsible for achieving sales, trading company and Gift Aid budgets. This will include analysing epos reports and taking necessary steps to maximise the sales in the store.
4. Ensure all donors are asked about Gift Aid and work to agreed targets for sign up’s. Prioritise Gift Aided stock to maximise the return on these goods.
5. Responsible for the efficient operation of the electronic collection and delivery system.

6. Categorise and price all donated goods, as defined by Hospice Policy, to achieve maximum returns.
7. Work in the Retail Distribution Centre (RDC) as and when required to sort and select stock.
8. Be responsible, if required, for the management of any other Dove House Hospice Retail Shop in the absence of any of the Shop Managers, as directed by the Retail Division Manager/Regional Manager.
9. Be responsible for the security of all shop monies, including petty cash, daily takings and
banking’s, as required and directed by the Finance Department.
10. Ensure the shop premises are always safe and secure; make sure risk assessments, safe systems of work and departmental induction training are all in place.
11. Recruit and train new staff and volunteers as and when needed.
12. Compile duty rotas and ensure there is adequate cover for your shop at all times.
13. Maintain adequate stock levels needed to reach all budgets. Using analytical reports, make the
best use of space to maximise income.
14. Ensure your shop is in a clean and orderly condition at all times.
15. Immediately report to the Regional Manager any findings of cash, valuables and personal papers
amongst goods donated to the Hospice/shop.
16. Process and barcode all donated and trading stock, as required.
17. Be responsible for all store administration, including induction training packs, financial documents, gift aid administration and till procedures amongst others.
18. Be responsible for carrying out necessary Fire Safety Precautions and for promoting a positive attitude towards health and safety, security and fire, in line with Organisational Policy.
19. Have a delegated responsibility for the implementation of the Dove House Hospice General Policy on health and safety throughout the areas and activities under direct control, having a good understanding of the regulations, approved codes of practice and guidance which govern those areas and activities.
20. Be involved in the compilation of and compliance with the Health and Safety rules, policies and procedures formulated by the organisations management as defined in the Dove House Hospice General Policy on health and safety and their individual health and safety responsibility folder.
21. Undertake manual handling training as requested to keep up to date and ensure all staff and volunteers are sufficiently trained in this area to ensure safe working at all times.
22. Be responsible for ordering supplies through the Retail Administration Assistant to ensure the efficient operation of the shop.
23. Ensure compliance with Trading Standards Regulations in line with Organisational Policy, reporting any non-compliance to the Regional Manager.
24. Adhere to all current recycling procedures as set out by the Regional Manager.

25. Report all accidents, injuries and incidents occurring at the shop according to Organisational Policy.
26. Supply information as required by the Retail Division Manager/Regional Manager including voluntary hours, stock control, holidays, sickness and absence.
27. Train and develop all paid and voluntary staff members in your retail outlet.
28. Attend meetings as directed by the Retail Division Manager/Regional Manager.
29. Attend relevant training courses, as agreed with the Retail Division Manager/Regional Manager.
30. Build strong working relationships with Lottery and Fundraising staff and help promote/sell lottery tickets, scratch cards and events.
31. Work closely with Lottery and Fundraising staff within your community to maximise opportunities for supporting DHH, adopting a donor centric approach which offers the best products to supporters.
32. Undertake any other relevant duties as reasonably requested by the Retail Division Manager/Regional Manager.

The Requirements:

ESSENTIAL
1. At least 3 years Homeware Retail and/or charity shop furniture experience
2. Able to work under pressure and on own initiative
3. Able to work as part of a team
4. Experience of managing staff
5. Leadership qualities such as fairness, decisiveness, diplomacy, tact and the ability to self-motivate
and motivate others
6. Ability to work in a target driven environment
7. Must be able to undertake manual handling operations
8. Flexible approach to working hours and working week
9. Excellent Customer Service skills
10. Good communication skills
11. Experience of EPOS Systems
12. Basic IT skills including email, Microsoft word,
