Floor Supervisor (Hessle Road, At Home by Dove House Hospice), Retail Department
Role open to applications: 13th – 27th July 2018 at 15.00. Applications to be made via the hospice application form only.
Salary: £15,775 - £16,924 per annum.
Hours of work: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week (to be worked 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis (this may include Saturdays and Sundays) Daily hours 08:45 – 17:15 (1 x 1hr unpaid break)

Dove House Hospice is a charity providing excellent care for people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire with life limiting illnesses. We are specialists in palliative care which is the total care of patients whose illness is no longer curable and for whom the goal must be quality of life.
Job Summary:
This role is an integral part of the Dove House Hospice (DHH) Retail Division. Working alongside your Shop Manager, Assistant Manager and colleagues from shops based around the region, collectively your work will fund approximately half of the full running costs of the hospice.
You will need to be great at customer service and salesmanship, have an eye for merchandising and be focused on achieving targets and raising the maximum amount possible from the goods that are donated to us.

Main Responsibilities:
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Shop Manager and the Assistant Shop Manager with the efficient and effective day to day management of 10,000+ square foot superstore retail outlet – this may be split over multiple floors.
- Responsible for the day to day running of a 5,000 square foot sales floor, under the supervision of the Shop Manager and/or the Assistant Shop Manager.
- Assist the Shop Manager and Assistant Shop Manager in achieving the sales budget, trading company budget and gift aid budget. This will include taking necessary steps to maximise the sales on the floor under your control.
- Ensure all donors are asked about Gift Aid and work to agreed targets for sign up’s. Prioritise Gift Aided stock to maximise the return on these goods.
- Be responsible for the efficient operation of the electronic collection and delivery system whenever this is under your control.
- Assist in the categorising and pricing all donated goods, as defined by Hospice Policy, to achieve maximum returns.
- Work in the Retail Distribution Centre (RDC) as and when required to sort and select stock.
- Be responsible for the security of all shop monies under your direct control, including petty cash, daily takings and banking as required and directed by the Shop Manager or Assistant Manager.
- Be responsible for ensuring effective safety and security of the floor under your control, including risk assessments, safe systems of work and departmental induction training.
- Assist the Shop Manager and/or Assistant Manager in the training of and duty rotas for volunteer staff, ensuring adequate staffing on the floor under your control. Assist the Shop Manager in maintaining the shop in a clean and orderly condition, and using analytical reports making the best use of space to maximise income on the floor under your control.
- Immediately report to the Shop Manager any findings of cash, valuables and personal papers amongst goods donated to the Hospice/shop.
- Assist the Shop Manager and Assistant Manager in processing and barcoding donated and trading stock, as required
- Assist the Shop Manager and Assistant manager in store administration, including, induction training packs, financial documents, gift aid administration and till procedures amongst others.
- Assist the Shop Manager and Assistant Manager in carrying out necessary Fire Safety Precautions and for promoting a positive attitude towards health and safety, security and fire, in line with Organisational Policy
- Have a delegated responsibility for the implementation of the Dove House Hospice General Policy on health and safety throughout the areas and activities under direct control, having a good understanding of the regulations, approved codes of practice and guidance which govern those areas and activities.
- Be involved in the compilation of and compliance with the Health and Safety rules, policies and procedures formulated by the organisations management as defined in the Dove House Hospice General Policy on health and safety and their individual health and safety responsibility folder.
- Undertake manual handling training as requested to keep up to date and ensure all staff and volunteers under your leadership are sufficiently trained in this area to ensure safe working at all times.
- Report to the Manager and/or Assistant Manager any requirements needed with regards supplies needed to ensure the efficient operation of the shop.
- Ensure compliance with Trading Standards Regulations in line with Organisational Policy, reporting any non-compliance to the Shop Manager.
- Adhere to all current recycling procedures as set out by the Regional Manager.
- Report all accidents, injuries and incidents occurring at the shop according to Organisational Policy.
- Assist the Shop Manager in supplying information as required by the Retail Division Manager/Regional Manager including voluntary hours, stock control, holidays, sickness and absence.
- Assist the Shop Manager in the training and development of voluntary staff members in your retail outlet.
- Attend meetings as directed by the Shop Manager.
- Attend relevant training courses, as agreed with the Shop Manager/Retail Division Manager/Regional Manager.
- Ensure all upholstered furniture complies with health & safety regulations.
- Answer all telephone calls in a professional manner, booking in collections and deliveries for customers as needed.
- Build strong working relationships with Lottery and Fundraising staff and help promote/sell lottery tickets, scratch cards and events.
- Work closely with Lottery and Fundraising staff within your community to maximise opportunities for supporting DHH, adopting a donor centric approach which offers the best products to supporters.
- Undertake any other relevant duties as reasonably requested by the Shop Manager/Retail Division Manager/Regional Manager.
The Requirements:
ESSENTIAL
- Homeware Retail and/or charity shop furniture experience
- Able to work under pressure and on own initiative
- Able to work as part of a team
- Experience of Supervising volunteers
- Must be able to undertake manual handling operations
- Flexible approach to working hours and working week
- Experience of EPOS Systems
- Basic IT skills including email, Microsoft word,
- Ability to embody and live the hospice values: United we will be: positive, professional and passionate
DESIRABLE
- Basic knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety at Work
- Basic knowledge and understanding of Fire Safety and Security
- Have a telephone and be fully mobile with transport available
- Commercial awareness
