We are looking to appoint a Deputy Digital Publishing Editor to join the LeicestershireLive team. Reporting to the Digital Publishing Editor, you will be working out of the Leicester Mercury's busy city centre office. This is a great opportunity for a content editor or reporter looking to move on to the content desk at a fast-moving news publisher.
We want to hear from passionate and organised news managers who can get the most from the stories, pictures and video that engage our target audiences. This is a role which requires flexibility and involves managing a dynamic team of reporters in ensuring the generation, creation and publication of multimedia news content that works brilliantly across all of our digital and print platforms. You will be producing and publishing in line with company strategy for digital growth.
You are enthusiastic and have the high standards we need to ensure digital targets are achieved and that our news coverage is high-quality, comprehensive and essential for our local audience. You will also stand in for the Digital Publishing Editor as required in creating and delivering editorial strategy for regional digital platforms including LeicestershireLive.

Key Responsibilities
The key focus in this role is sourcing, publishing and sharing high-quality, original stories, pictures and video for website, app and social media platforms. You will be briefing reporters and making data-led decisions about where and when to engage our readers with content that is exciting, eye-catching and interesting.
Working patterns
The smooth working of LeicestershireLive is driven from a carefully-constructed rota that is designed to allocate cover for the right roles and the right times of the day, evening and weekends. To ensure a fair distribution of shifts between the whole team, your role will involve some early, late and weekend working.
The Ideal Candidate
- Reach plc or equivalent journalist qualification (or relevant time-served experience)Excellent writing skills and experience writing professionallyExperience of managing a news publishing team and achieving digital objectivesUnderstanding of digital publishing, including SEO, live-blogging, push, analytics and digital audience behaviourSolid understanding of social media and social publishing toolsExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenEnergy, enthusiasm and self-motivationAbility to work quickly and effectively under deadline pressureAbility to work well as a team leaderFlexible approach to shiftsEnthusiasm about representing Leicestershire Live at internal and external seminars and forumsUp-to-date legal and IPSO Code knowledgeFull driving licence
