Health and Safety Officer
Location: Halifax
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Salary: 25-35K per annum (dependent on experience)
ROLE PURPOSE
To manage the company H&S management system ensuring continued OHSAS18001 accreditation. Working as part of the company's Health and Safety team identifying areas for improvement and developing safe systems of work. Conduct training of those safe systems and enforcing compliance.
As a multi-site business, the ability and willingness to travel is essential. Visiting company sites as and when required.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure all transport activities assigned to your responsibility comply with the latest H&S legislation.
• Carry out planned audits of the OHSAS18001 H&S management system in line with the agreed audit programme.
• Conduct site audits for transport and production activities assigned to your responsibility.
• Identify areas of non-conformance and formally record, work as part of the team to identify corrective actions and ensure those corrective actions are effectively trained out to all employees.
• Convene H&S meetings in line with agreed schedules for all transport and production activities assigned to your responsibility.
• Carry out risk assessments and develop safe systems of work for all transport and production activities assigned to your responsibility.
• Ensure all employees have received full induction training.
• Carry out accident investigations to establish the exact cause of any accidents occurring for all transport and production activities assigned to your responsibility.
• Summarise all H&S activities in a monthly report
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
• Relevant H&S qualification (essential)
• Experience of OHSAS18001 H&S management system (essential)
• H&S management experience in freight transport (essential)
• Experience of delivering H&S training (essential)
• Full driving licence (essential)
• Relevant training qualification (desirable)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment (desirable)
PERSON SPECIFICATION
• Strong communication skills; able to challenge and engage across all levels of the business and external customers
• Able to lead and motivate the team
• Resilient and able to work well under pressure
• Measures of Success - Achievement of all group health and Safety KPIs / Continued compliance with all regulatory and health and safety requirements
• Key Relationships - Cross departmental operatives, drivers and office staff, Line management, Senior Managers
