We are looking to recruit a Commodity Buyer. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic purchasing of turbo charger components for our clients' Bradford Plant, assisting in the formulation of supply base strategies globally and locally. The position has responsibility for an annual spend of approximately GBP10-12m amongst 15-20 suppliers.
Shift Pattern: working 40 hours per week (hours may vary due to the needs of our clients' business), Monday - Friday, with the occasional weekend and Bank Holiday.
Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to: Purchasing Manager
- Negotiate long-term agreements for series production components.
- Recommend supplier process utilization by interpreting blueprints and evaluating customer needs.
- Explore available technology and implement best practices related to purchasing activities.
- Select suppliers for existing products through effective use of proven procurement skills in an automotive environment (TS16949, QS-9000, AIAG).
- Prepare tenders (RFQ's) for multi-year full production quantities.
- Evaluate part designs with engineering, quality and suppliers to obtain optimum efficiencies.
- Develop metrics to measure progress against corporate goals.
- Support global corporate purchasing activities.
- Complete project work as appropriate and other duties as assigned.
- Plan, organise, track and disseminate information related to production suppliers.
- Maintain complex spread-sheets containing supply base data.
- Maintain confidentiality of all work and personnel matters.
- Be responsible for ensuring all actions contribute positively to the Company's overriding objective of quality, by complying at all times with any relevant procedure that pursues this aim.
In order to apply, you will have:
- Ideally Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or related field.
- Purchasing experience (automotive and/or manufacturing).
- Practical experience in the procurement of casting and machining processes.
- Computer literate (MS Office).
- MRP experience required; Knowledge of SAP R3 ideal.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Good written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
