gap Personnel are pleased to recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager for our client in Exeter:

Role Overview:

To ensure the company meets its obligations under H+S law and is fully compliant with all relevant regulations by developing, implementing and reviewing robust H+S, regulatory and quality management system, policies and procedures, and providing expert advice on all aspects of H+S.

There are circa 120 staff, the majority of which are involved in working around equipment. The post requires working with Mangers to ensure suitable compliance and H+S management is in place and maintained.

The primary focus of the post is H+S but the management of the company QMS (ISO) system is required, in conjunction with the Compliance Manager

Role responsibilities:

  1. Proactively and continually assess the operations of the company from an H+S perspective, recommending appropriate systems of risk management and elimination. This will include working with Managers and Supervisors of the various parts of the company's business to understand their operations and develop appropriate work process for them, e.g. Risk Assessments, Safe Working Procedures etc.
  2. Ensure the company complies with its legal obligations with regards to H+S, and to advise the Directors and Managers of their obligations, as well as monitoring compliance.
  3. Lead, develop and motivate staff in providing an effective H+S and profitable operation, based around trust and a positive attitude to performance and customer needs. Proactively lead change so all teams understand strategic priorities, resource issues and service standards and can apply them in their roles.
  4. Report monthly to the Managing Director and the Board the company's compliance with Health & Safety obligations, including accidents, incidents and near misses. Such reports to include recommendations and the reasons for the recommendations.
  5. Maintain the company's Quality Management Systems which are presently ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
  6. Assist the Compliance Manager in the preparations of annual budgets for the posts obligations
  7. Support the company's operations from a regulatory point of view and effectively manage key relationships with its Regulators (Environment Agency and Health & Safety Executive).
  8. Maintain a COTC register and other data keeping duties, so relevant cover is available for the Groups operations in accordance with any guidelines in force.
  9. Manage the keeping of clear, precise and full records of all H+S paperwork (for example, inspection reports, maintenance records, accident forms, and training records.
  10. Be aware of and follow policies and procedures, with attention to standards of customer service, health and safety, and equality and diversity.

Role requirements:

  • NEEBOSH Diploma
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Health and Safety Manager.
  • Experience of management systems and achieving third party certification to a recognised standard such as OHSAS 18001, BS EN ISO 14001 or ISO 9001.
  • Experience of dealing with external enforcing bodies such as HSE, Local Authorities and the Environment Agency.
  • Experience of leading, motivating and developing staff.
  • Experience of working to deadlines and targets.
