Job Scope
Conduct the Installation and maintenance of high and low voltage
electrical equipment. As well as the installation and maintenance of
MV/HV substation equipment you will be installing multi-core cables and
earthing equipment.
Needs to Have
Min 10 years' experience as a wireman or in a similar role
City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 & 2 or equivalent NVQ
All relevant H&S accreditation and certification (Safety Passport)
National Grid BESC & Persons authorisation is desirable
Full Drivers Licence
Experience splicing fibres is desirable
Roles/Responsibilities
Health & Safety:
It shall be the duty of every employee while at work
1. To take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself and of
other persons who may be affected by his acts or omissions at work
2. Any duty or requirement imposed on his employer or any other person
by or under any of the relevant statutory provisions, to co-operate
with him so far as is necessary to enable that duty or requirement to
be performed or complied with.
3. Ensure that they receive a suitable induction and always sign in and
out
4. Comply with all relevant PPE Requirements
5. Request any HSE Training which you feel is required to fulfil your
role
6. Be aware of site rules and adhere to them at all times
7. Always receive a POWRA Brief when undertaking any site works and
ensure you follow the GSS Setting to Work Process
8. Report any accidents, incidents, near misses or safety observations
ASAP
* Your location for work will vary from site anywhere in the UK to the
GSS testing facility based in Jarrow building up test rigs, wiring
etc.
* You will be required to assist in the construction of minor sub racks
and to perform wiring modifications where needed
* Must be aware of all H&S policies and procedures, and the associated
documentation.
* Installation of CT's, Disconnectors and earth switches
* Multicore wiring, glanding & terminating
* Fitting & erection of busbars & clamps
* General labouring duties
* Participate in SHEQ initiatives
* Involvement in pre-FAT/FAT testing at the unit.
* Wiring sub-racks/relays/panel building
* Connection of test equipment (simulators/omicron)
* Use of electrical test equipment (IR Tester/Multi-meter)
* Complete testing reports
* Using computers and various programmes to connect to relays and test
equipment
* Manage equipment stores
* Ordering equipment and materials
* Splicing of fibre optic cables
* Will work on-site as a wireman supporting Commissioning Engineer
* Gain authorisations to attend site for National Grid, SPEN, etc.
