UCL Department of Space & Climate Physics
The appointment will be on UCL Grade 5. The salary range will be £20,989 to £24,285 per annum, exclusive of London Allowance.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Administrative Assistant to join the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory). The successful candidate will work as part of a vibrant administrative team and will be based at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory in Holmbury St Mary. The post holder will provide administrative support to all the departmental staff and students and will undertake general office duties, working as part of the administrative team in the general support of the Department’s function. The appointee will also liaise with the administrative, teaching and academic staff based on the main UCL campus in Bloomsbury.
The post is initially funded for two years and is expected to continue after this pending funding.
This is a full-time position, although applications from those wishing to work part-time are also encouraged. The Mullard Space Science Laboratory is located on its own campus in the beautiful Surrey Hills, surrounded by woodland. MSSL is the UK's largest university space research group. Space science is a discipline that demands highly innovative technologies and MSSL has an international reputation for excellence in this area. UCL was one of the first universities in the world to become involved in making scientific observations in space. Since MSSL was established in 1966, we have participated in over 40 satellite missions with the European Space Agency, NASA (US), Japan, Russia, China and India, and flown over 230 rocket experiments.
The postholder is expected to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including Mathematics and English Language) or equivalent, or have relevant administrative experience. Excellent interpersonal skills, proven experience of working as part of a team, and the ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality when dealing with a variety of data are also essential requirements. The postholder will be expected to have a commitment to customer focus and to provide an efficient, professional and effective service to the many users and contacts both internally at all levels of the organisation and externally.
