We have a new exciting opportunity, not to be missed! At DEBRA we are currently looking for a Charity Shop Manager to join our team based in Southampton. The successful candidate will join us on a full time, permanent basis working 35 hours per week and will receive a competitive salary of £12.15 per hour.

DEBRA is the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a painful genetic skin blistering condition which, in the worst cases, can be fatal.

Until that day, DEBRA focuses its work in two areas:

- We fund pioneering research to find effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for EB.

- We provide care and support to individuals and families living with EB.

About the Charity Shop Manager Role

DEBRA is currently seeking a business minded, enthusiastic and highly motivated Retail Manager to lead the team at its new furniture and electrical store in Southampton.

Management experience is essential to the role. You will ensure efficient and effective operational management and promotion of the shop, including handling all administration, ensure the shop complies with all Health and Safety legislation, Trading Standards, and all other legal or statutory requirements, recruit, select and co-ordinate the activities of the volunteers, be accountable for achieving sales targets as specified by the Area Manager and be responsible for sourcing stock through targeted activity.

Key Responsibilities of our Charity Shop Manager will include:

- Ensure all DEBRA’s organizational procedures are followed.

- Ensure the shop is open as required, and continually manned during working hours

- Maintain good discipline, ensuring that staff and volunteers project a good image on behalf of DEBRA.

- Attend training and meetings as required by the Area Manager

- Inform the public about DEBRA’s work, and encourage the public to donate saleable goods and ensure that adequate stock is available at all times

- Organise special promotions in the shop either when requested by the Area Manager, or when local events make promotion appropriate

- Maintain a high standard of display, both in the window and inside the shop

- Co-ordinate staff and volunteers to display incoming stock in accordance with display guidelines

- Keep all stock priced and Gift Aided in accordance with guidelines

- Use pricing/logistic strategies to keep stock on the floor fresh

- Ensure that the shop so that it is clean and tidy at all times

- In consultation with the Area Manager, arrange shop layout to make best use of space available

- Keep sold area and electrical testing area in a workable and efficient state

- Ensure that all sales are properly recorded

- Ensure that all money is kept secure and keep all valuable donations in a safe place.

- Bank daily, or make use of the night safe facilities where appropriate

- Complete administrative paper work correctly and promptly and keep all records on the shops premises

- Complete daily checks on collection and delivery paperwork to ensure all data is collected, and all customer interactions are completed to a satisfactory standard

- Make weekly returns to the Area Manager/Director of Retail

What we’re looking for in our Charity Shop Manager

You will be self-motivated and passionate about raising funds for a worthwhile cause, with excellent leadership and retail management skills as well as the ability to work well under pressure and to meet targets. Previous experience as a retail manager is essential.
