Full time, 35 hours per week 
£46,189.73 per annum plus excellent benefits (starting salary is subject to experience) 

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. We now help around 190,000 cats and kittens through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 34 adoption centres and homing centres. 

As a result of expansion and growth plans at Cats Protection, we are looking for a Capital Project Manager to join our Property & Construction Team, someone who will plan, manage and deliver multiple capital projects, within the charity’s Capital Build Programme, to help the charity achieve its strategic objectives. 

The Project Manager is responsible for managing the delivery of capital projects and work programmes, from conception to completion, in the region of £500k to £3M. 

This will include the development of new adoption centres and satellite homing facilities as well as the refurbishment of CP’s existing portfolio of sites. 

The Project Manager is responsible for developing, specifying and delivering Cats Protection Capital and major building projects nationally. 

This also includes: 
- Responsibility for all aspects of the project management process, such as understanding requirements, setting project objectives, preparing business cases and establishing project timelines/programmes 
- Initiating and maintaining Project Risk Registers and developing strategies and measures to mitigate and/or control the identified risks 
- Reporting on project progress against milestones and budgets, and developing project management methodology and documentation 
- Attending CP’s Capital Steering Group as required 
- Managing multi-disciplinary project teams including specialist consultants, contractors and staff, and chairing project meetings as required 
- Effective handover of projects to internal customers, Property maintenance and facilities management team, ensuring all defects and issues are addressed before conclusion of the works 
- Responsibility for H&S and Environment (HS&E) for all projects and work programmes, under their leadership 
- Developing and building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle 

In common with all posts, ensure compliance with Cats Protection’s policies and procedures, statutory obligations and best practice, and to undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Chief Executive. This job description may be subject to review in the light of the developing organisation and in consultation with the post holder. 

Some overnight stays away from home will be required. No overtime is paid but time off in lieu will be given. 

A wide range of skills, knowledge and experience are required, some of the essential requirements being: 
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a recognised project management, surveying or building discipline 
- Membership, or working towards, of an appropriate professional body e.g. CIOB, RICS, RIBA 
- Recognised Project Management qualification e.g. Prince 2, APM (PMQ/PPQ) 
- Delivering capital projects with value of between £1-3 million 
- Strong financial and budget management skills 
- Experience managing and leading multi-disciplinary project teams, controlling contractors and specialist consultants 
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and quality standards e.g. building and planning regulations, HSE&S and CDM 
- The ability to work within a small team and externally with other professionals and third parties 
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels 
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to working including stakeholder management and team-working, alongside initiative, self-motivation and the ability to prioritise 
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Project as part of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
