The Salesforce Functional Lead engages directly with global, multi-functional teams to drive strategic development and enhancement of the Customer Relationship Management application (Salesforce) and related Sales Enablement and Marketing Automation technologies. This includes, but is not limited to, integration with key business systems, continual business process improvement, assessment and advancement of complementary technologies, and alignment to overarching Sales & Marketing business objectives.

The Salesforce Functional Lead acts as the Subject Matter Expert for the Salesforce technology stack; primary responsibilities include identification, documentation, and prioritization of business requirements, development of the application strategy needed to satisfy requirements, definition of the Salesforce standards and best practices for implementing standard solutions, and execution of required development throughout phased implementation. The primary objectives of this role is to ensure that Elsevier has a functionally sound and stable Salesforce deployment, that the desired level of standardization of business processes is being achieved, that project risks and costs are reduced by leveraging standard solutions and Salesforce best practices, and that deep expertise is applied to ensure business objectives are met while minimizing business disruption.

KEY ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Work directly with various business leaders and sales teams; direct accountability for the delivery of Salesforce capabilities
  • Estimate work efforts required for each phase of a project; direct design, development, and implementation responsibility (with and without 3rd party development support)
  • Provide product and technical expertise when scoping complex projects and related integrations
  • Review code and solution summaries where appropriate to ensure adherence to best practices and fit-for-purpose development
  • Demonstrable growth mindset; enthusiastic about learning new technologies quickly and applying the gained knowledge to address business problems
  • Integration monitoring, trouble-shooting, and future integration requirement assessment, design, and development
  • Documentation and knowledge sharing; technical, business process, best practice, reference architecture, etc.
  • Data management; Customer Master Data Management focus and development of governance processes and best practices
  • Act as CRM trusted advisor in support of business unit projects through all phases of requirement gathering, dissemination of requirements to 3rd party development team if applicable, design, testing, and deployment; product demonstration and use-case modeling, business process development and related configuration, alignment and buy-in with stakeholders, direct support of business unit staff during launch, etc.
  • Applies advanced Salesforce technical principles and concepts; contributes to the development of new principles and concepts
  • Works on unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious
  • Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives; assignments are often self-initiated, determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results, work checked through consultation and agreement with business stakeholders more often than by formal review of superior
  • Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product; technical solutions provide enablers for the businesses to excel in their business plans, consistent solutions provide for faster implementations with less risk and provide for strategic flexibility for future change across the broader business.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or related field
  • 4+ years previous development experience with Salesforce
  • Salesforce Sales Cloud Consultant certification
  • Salesforce Certified Advanced Administrator certification
  • Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder certification
  • Strong understanding of how to build and support highly scalable and reliable solutions on Salesforce Platform
  • Experience working in Agile projects
  • Proven ability to manage and resolve complex and ambiguous technical issues
  • Demonstrative success with at least one large Salesforce integration project
  • Experience integrating Salesforce with other applications via real-time, batch, sync/async services
  • Experience with cloud or on-premise middleware and other enterprise integration technologies
  • Technical project management experience
  • Understanding of UI design principles and best practices
  • Exceptional analytical skills and experience working with large-scale, complex datasets
  • Communication skills for both a technical and business audience.
