Since the 1800s, West Buckland School has been a leader in education in North Devon. We have created opportunities for boys and girls to fulfil their academic potential and grow and develop as young people. 

Our Sixth Form boarders live in Parker’s, our impressive, newly opened boarding house which holds 70 en-suite bedrooms for boys and girls along with a variety of social spaces and kitchens which can be used. 

Now, we are looking for a Day Matron to join us during term time only and supervise pupils staying at Parker’s.

This exciting new role offers the opportunity to support the day-to-day development of our senior pupils as they prepare for A Levels, Higher Education and their lives beyond West Buckland School. 

You will have the chance to strengthen your existing abilities, provide key support to pupils during an important time in their lives and help them to gain valuable life skills. 

The Role: 

As a Day Matron, you will supervise pupils as a parental presence at Parker’s. 

Reporting to our Head of Boarding, you will: 

- Ensure the safety, welfare, good discipline and pastoral wellbeing of all students at Parker’s during the school day 
- Be available for a chat, advice or support for pupils, including pupils in years 7-11 if required 
- Work with colleagues to ensure that common areas are kept tidy 
- Maintain and update pupils’ records 
- Arrange deliveries and order food 
- Report any issues to the Head of Boarding or Head of Sixth Form 

About You: 

To join us as our Day Matron, you will need: 

- Experience of working with older children aged 16 – 18 
- The ability to work with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality 
- A highly-organised approach 
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and work with limited supervision 

Other organisations may call this role Pastoral Officer, Pastoral Mentor, Pupil Supervisor, Boarding House Supervisor, Boarding Houseparent, Houseparent or Pastoral Support Assistant. 

The working hours for this role are 8:30 – 16:30, Monday – Friday, during term time only.
