About the role
We have an opportunity for two Gardeners to join our existing team who care for the gardens and grounds at our Main Newton Park Campus. This will enable us to react to recent developments and significantly enhance and update existing campus plantings, moving towards the 2020 vision for the University and continuing the care of the Listed Landscape. The postholder will have ownership, pride, and involvement with the ongoing improvements and presentation of the campus grounds.
About you (Requirements)
You will hold an appropriate qualification RHS Level 1, BTEC First Diploma, or similar or have an equivalent level of vocational experience. You will have some practical experience in horticulture and grounds maintenance practices. This should include a basic knowledge of plant husbandry and horticultural techniques.
You will be willing to learn the safe operation of horticultural machinery/equipment such as tractors, pedestrian and ride on mowers, strimmers and hedge cutters, and develop an understanding how to correctly maintain them.
The successful candidate will have enthusiasm for horticulture along with good attention to detail, be able to work in a safe and tidy manner and enjoy working as part of a team.
You will be be willing to take on training associated with our Health and Safety & Compliance requirements, safe working practices and Risk Assessment procedures. Training will also be given in correct manual handling techniques. You must be physically fit to fulfil this role and be comfortable with working at heights.
