We are seeking a suitably AAT qualified Accounts Assistant to join the friendly team of our prestigious, well established, client. Your varied role as the Accounts Assistant, supporting the Financial Controller, will ultimately help produce monthly management accounts. This is an exciting opportunity, working within the small finance team of a fast growing, energetic business who have a network of branches supplying timber and building materials throughout the UK. Key responsibilities of Account Assistant:


  • Reporting and Monitoring Margin analysis by product group including:
    • Being responsible for the supplier rebates for the business – currently circa £8million p.a
    • Accrual of Monthly Rebate due
    • Reconciliation of accruals to receipts from suppliers
    • Verify records against third party information to ensure accrual is accurate
    • Quarterly Review meetings with the Buying department to review rebates
    • Look to develop further reporting and utilise system function to drive improvements in understanding/reporting and accruing rebates.
  • Generate and distribute monthly sales reports to key stakeholders
  • Assist the FC with management accounts preparation
  • Liaise with Regional Manager (2) and Branch Managers (15) regarding any queries on management accounts
  • Reconcile balance sheets
  • Intercompany reconciliations
  • KPI reporting
  • Work with the FC and key stakeholders to develop and implement a new Business Information system
  • Assist and cover for purchase and sales ledger as required
  • Assist the FC with various projects and other ad-hoc duties within the finance department


Personal specification – Accounts Assistant:


  • Qualified to level 4 AAT (or near to qualifying)
  • Previous experience working in an all-round accounts assistant role (including sales and purchase ledgers)
  • Excellent IT skills, including Excel
  • Accurate with good attention to detail
  • Good team player
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with both colleagues and the wider business
