Business Development Manager

OTE £35K

Based Bristol

This is a sales role you can really put your heart into, promoting a business that clients love working with, bringing imaginative play spaces to life.

We’re Touchwood. A specialist design and build play company with over 15 years’ experience creating innovative, highly engineered playgrounds and adventure play areas. You’re an experienced, ambitious sales person who shares our sense of fun and can bring us experience in a design- or construction-led role. Together, we’ll be meeting new clients, bringing their plans to life – and growing our business.

Why join us?

First, it’s a chance to sell fantastic, fun products that customers love. We supply amazing environments where kids of all ages – and their imaginations can run wild. From zip wires to dens to teepees to epic swings. Our materials are as local, sustainable, and natural as possible and we pride ourselves on using traditional craftsmanship.

Secondly, you’ll be conveying the benefits of our unique approach to a refreshingly wide range of clients – we’ve worked with schools, local councils, retail and leisure complexes, architects and landscape architects, and national visitor attractions, throughout the UK and Europe. We design each project from scratch in close collaboration with each client, and often with the active input of children and the community.

Thirdly, there’s the job itself. We’ll trust you to guide clients from the initial point of sale to final installation and beyond into aftercare. Yes, you’ll spend plenty of time on the road, convincing prospective clients that we have the know-how to help them get the best out of their project and budget. But beyond that you’ll have a broad remit, including collating site information and briefing designers, creating compelling proposals and pricing schedules, and representing us online and in person, at conferences and promotional events.

What we need

Your sales experience ideally includes time in the play industry or promoting a similarly design-driven, creative proposition; perhaps you’ve worked in construction or a role involving landscaping/structures. An understanding of natural play and working properties of natural materials and knowledge of BSEN play safety standards would be an advantage but, provided you can convince us you can cultivate relationships with customers looking for creative solutions, we can bring you up to speed. Because it’s a broad role, you will need experience of applying marketing techniques and managing social media.

Your personality and approach is important. Of course, you need to be driven and ambitious – this is a business with a great story to tell and huge potential to grow. But it’s just as important that you work well as part of a team. Add to that a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially PowerPoint) and a design software package, and we’d like to hear from you.
