Campus:  Hull

Faculty/Area:  Estates

Department:  Maintenance (Operations)

Salary:  £21,585 to £24,983

Post Type:  Full Time

Closing Date:  Wednesday 17th July 2018

The Maintenance section, led by the Head of Maintenance Operations, is part of the Estates Department, which also covers the residential accommodation and academic and non-academic building management, capital projects, catering, portering and security.  The Heating and Mechanical Services team forms part of the Maintenance section, which includes joiners, electricians, fitters, plumbers and grounds and gardens teams.

The Heating and Mechanical services team are specifically responsible for heating, plumbing and mechanical services throughout the Universities estate which also incorporates a 24-hour service provision, 365 days per year.

All work is allocated through a paperless Maintenance system “Planon” and the trades persons utilise an electronic PDA to receive and carry out their allocated jobs and record the details.

Due to the size of the site and the varying degree of complexity of the access to the buildings services, the successful candidate will be required to work at height, under floors, and cover varying distances across campus on foot.

The post holder will be expected to work at any location within the universities estate and will be expected to carry out all plumbing/gas safe maintenance duties on commercial and domestic facilities allocated via the PLANON maintenance system (via a personal PDA device).

Tasks will include reactive/emergency work, small project works and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).

The post holder will also be required to participate in the 24 hour call out rota for heating and mechanical services and required to hold a valid full driving licence.

The post holder will be expected to carry out all works in compliance with the Universities Health and Safety policies either under the guidance of the Heating and/or Mechanical Services Manager or without direct supervision.

In addition, the post holder will be expected to work across multi-functional trades’ teams to ensure all works are completed within priority timescales and undertake all training required within the service.

Customer liaison will be an important part of the post holder’s role.
