Night Warden
Introduction
Night Wardens report to the Vice-Principal and are responsible for: providing pastoral care and assistance to students during night times; the security of the School buildings and grounds; and protecting residents, property, contents, fixtures, fittings, equipment and machinery from accidental or wilful damage, destruction or theft howsoever at risk (i.e. trespass, forced entry, fire, flood, etc).
Main Duties:
- Assist with pastoral care of students;
- Regular patrol of the school site;
- Take preventative action, as necessary, without risk of bodily injury;
- Record maintenance or health and safety issues using appropriate paperwork and/or e-mail;
- Record incidents or breaches of security in the night security diary;
- Patrol student accommodation and enforce curfew;
- Sign in all visitors to the School, and issue and collect visitors’ badges;
- Report any occurrence and request assistance from residential personnel or from the emergency services (following guidelines provided);
- Provide support in an emergency or evacuation situation;
- Regularly check the location of the fire extinguishers;
- PAT test student and school equipment and keep up to date records;
- Act as fire warden – respond to all fire alarms, taking appropriate action as detailed in the School’s Fire Policy and Procedures document;
- Ensure the School’s CCTV system is professionally, effectively and sensitively monitored in compliance with the School’s Data Protection Policy;
- Undertake any other duty deemed necessary to fulfil the requirements of the School;
- Comply with policies and procedures, including those relating to Safeguarding and Child Protection, Health and Safety, Welfare, Smoking in the Workplace, Security, Confidentiality and Data Protection, and report any concerns;
- Cleaning duties.
Special Conditions:
- The post holder will be required to complete registration of students in their boarding accommodation during holiday periods.
- Male security officers should not enter the boarding houses of female students unless accompanied by a work colleague, other than in an emergency situation or on specific instructions by senior management.
- A Night Warden may, in an emergency situation, be required to transport students to hospital.

Shift Pattern and Hours of Work Permanent night wardens are divided into two teams, each team having two members. Cover is needed 7 nights per week. Shifts are worked on a 5 nights on, 5 nights off, 4 nights on, 5 nights off, 5 nights on, 4 nights off, repeating pattern and vice versa for the two teams.
The post holder will work 10pm to 8am. Current rate of pay - £19,500 per annum
Holiday entitlement 20 days paid holiday per annum, which incorporates statutory leave entitlement, based on current shift pattern.
Statutory holiday entitlement is maintained by awarding substitute days paid in lieu. Holiday to be taken during December (9 days) and remainder in July and August. TJB/IW/020718
