To design new product and upgrade existing products to support and compliment the range of high quality pressure area care (PAC) products within the Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare range. Provide technical support for servicing of existing products, and to support product related customer enquiries.
Drive Devilbiss Healthcare are a global leader in the supply of a wide range of durable medical products. Within the UK the business turns over GBP100m and employs over 600 people. The UK head office is based in Birkenshaw near Bradford in Yorkshire and we have manufacturing sites in Halifax, Leicestershire and Staffordshire.
We are currently looking to fill a position within our design team based at our Halifax production facility. This position focuses on our pressure area care side of our business and will support the development of both new and existing products in areas covering pressure relieving foams, dynamic air based mattress systems, new pressure relieving materials such as 'spacer materials; we are also starting to develop connected systems utilising cloud based IT systems and apps.
We would welcome applications from new graduates from a medical design based degree background. We would expect the successful candidate to have studied a biomedical degree with a focus on mechanical or electro mechanical principles, a mechanical degree with a focus on medical engineering or similar.
* To design and engineer new product (50%).
* Products should be innovative and must uphold the high standard and quality we believe in at Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare (DDH)/Drive DeVilbiss Sidhil (DDS)
* Balance designs with regard to cost, ergonomics/anthropometrics, aesthetics, and legislative criteria whilst working to required launch date.
* To be comfortable presenting information (internal and external), and speaking directly to customers and service engineers.
* To carry out design changes and cost reduction exercises with existing products (50%).
* Following the design change procedure, liaising with other departments and issuing controlled drawings to suppliers via purchasing. To provide support to other departments (5%): Service department: Part codes, technical advice, fault identification, communication with service engineers.
* Product Management - Supporting product design specification throughout the full development/updating process.
* Review of samples and competitor product, producing supporting documentation/reports (2%).

* Understanding and knowledge of CAD system Solid works is desirable.
* Understanding and experience of working with electro-mechanical products is desirable.
* High levels of attention to detail and thoroughness required.
* Ability to read and create engineering drawings with realistic tolerances.
* To provide support to both internal and external customers.
* Dealing with suppliers (domestic and foreign) where required.
* General understanding of Medical Device Regulations and information required for product technical files and to understand the conformance team's role in order to protect the business when developing new product.
* Positive attitude.
Desirable Skills
* Mechanical design degree.
* Biomedical engineering degree.
* Medical physics degree.
