Thank you for your enquiry about the above post. It is a full-time, whole-year, permanent post based primarily at Alsager School. The vacancy has arisen due to the retirement of the current post holder.
AMAT currently comprises of Alsager School, a large very successful 11-18 school and Weston Village Primary School, a large and successful 4-11 school situated near to Crewe. The Trust currently employs 107 teachers and 86 support staff as well as a number of staff employed on a casual basis as the need for their services arises (for example, Exam Invigilators, Supply Teachers, Cover Supervisors.)
The successful applicant will join the Trust’s highly efficient Finance and HR Central Services team to manage and develop the Trust’s HR services and to manage and lead Alsager School’s main office staff to ensure a professional and efficient reception service for the school.
The Trust’s Business and Finance Director, who is a member of the Executive Senior Leadership Team, leads the Central Services team. It consists of the following posts: Finance & Operations Manager; HR Manager; Senior Finance Officer; Finance Officer (all full-time, whole year posts) plus a part-time; part-year HR Administration Officer and Finance Assistant. The post-holder reports directly to the MAT Business & Finance Director and in turn directly line manages the HR Administration Officer and Main Office Supervisor as well as indirect line management of Alsager School’s reception team.
The Finance and HR Central Services team is moving in September to new accommodation and the HR Manager’s office will be adjacent to a large, modern open-plan office shared by the Finance and HR staff. The working environment is friendly and busy with regular interaction with staff and students across the schools.
The post-holder will ensure the provision of strategic advice and day-to-day guidance on a range of HR and employment law matters ensuring compliance, together with the delivery of an efficient, professional and effective HR function across the Trust. The successful candidate will have in-depth working knowledge of:
- Delivering a high quality end to end recruitment and selection service
- Staff conditions of employment and service
- Managing attendance, capability, grievance and disciplinary casework
- Job evaluations and restructures
- Working as a trusted advisor to members of the schools’ Senior Leadership Teams and staff
The person we appoint will have proven HR skills and be able to offer high-level HR support across the Trust to ensure best value and the successful operation of the schools. S/he will be experienced at working in a medium to large organisation at middle management level and will be prepared to lead, inspire and challenge. A recognised HR qualification is essential. Excellent IT skills (particularly Excel) are also required together with expert knowledge of information management systems, ideally SIMS.net, although appropriate induction and training will be provided when in post.
Excellent organisational skills and a flexible working attitude are also essential for the role. The ability to multi-task and prioritise work with a high degree of diplomacy, confidentiality and tact is essential as is an understanding of the importance of safeguarding within the school environment. As you would expect, the role is fast paced and often unpredictable. Nevertheless, you can be assured that support is provided, the work is stimulating and you will gain satisfaction from making a real difference to the Trust and its students
AMAT is a fantastic place to work with motivated and well-behaved students, committed and experienced governing bodies, dedicated staff and supportive parents. Children of all abilities make impressive progress throughout the key stages.
We are offering a competitive salary, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, excellent opportunities for professional development and the opportunity of working in a supportive and nurturing environment.
