Diabetes UK's Service Redesign and Improvement Consultancy provides bespoke support to help transform local services and improve the health of people living with diabetes. The Consultancy works with local health economies to make sense of their data, listen to the issues getting in the way of good diabetes care, and creates simple and sustainable solutions across diabetes services.

We're looking for an Intelligence and Market Development Consultant who can make sense of and report on local diabetes care and outcomes data, secure new clients with great proposals, help us develop the tools we use to make improvement happen and deliver support to diabetes services.

Main Responsibilities


  • Manage a portfolio of clients, made of CCGs and diabetes providers
  • Advise and influence local systems to change and improve the quality of diabetes care delivered
  • Secure 15% of the Consultancy's income target (set in annual planning)
  • Support other consultants to deliver activity in local systems as needed

Intelligence Support and Presentation of intelligence gathering

  • Undertake quantitative analysis of information/data before, during and after Consultancy improvement programmes
  • Present information and consultancy outcomes graphically for clients, in simple and easy to understand formats, as well as contribute to the style and content of narrative recommendation reports for clients/partners

Horizon scanning and proposal creation

  • Horizon scan to identify opportunities and threats in the area of diabetes care and funding opportunities
  • Create and deliver high-quality proposals for potential NHS partners/client


  • Work with teams across Diabetes UK to ensure the work of the Consultancy is well understood and that learning and intelligence is shared across the charity
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with a range of professionals across the healthcare system
  • Represent the Consultancy team and Diabetes UK at relevant conferences and marketing/promotional events.

  • To understand and commit to Diabetes UK's equal opportunities policy
  • To contribute to the overall strategy of the Improvement Support and Innovation team, and Policy, Care and Improvement Directorate.

Ideal Candidate

The best person for this job will be able to:

  • Communicate confidently (verbal and written communication) with internal colleagues and external partners and clients

  • Work under their own initiative, delivering to tight deadlines
  • Work collaboratively across the team to create bespoke solutions to issues affecting diabetes care in local areas
  • Interpret data to identify client needs and opportunities
  • Present data in simple and easy to understand graphical formats
  • Produce compelling proposals and secure income to deliver 15% of the Consultancy's income (agreed in annual planning)
  • Demonstrate how health data can be used as a tool for improvement in diabetes care
  • Promote/present the work of the Consultancy at conferences and promotional events

The best person for this job will have experience in:

  • Providing consultancy in the health field/charity field, including the development of proposals, securing contracts and delivering improvement activity
  • Analysing a variety of health data, including publically available population level health data
  • Managing several projects at the same time, including planning and delivering activity, managing risk and issues and budget
  • Building professional relationships and influencing people
  • Delivering change in local NHS services
  • Using all Microsoft Office programmes to a proficient standard

The best person for this job will be:

  • Educated to degree standard (preferably in a Health or Project Management related field) or have equivalent practical experience
  • Passionate about health improvement
  • Knowledgeable about NHS systems and structures
  • Committed to their own professional development and learning
  • Willing to work flexibly, with some time outside of office hours and with occasional travel throughout the UK
