Premises Officer

Role Purpose
To ensure the provision of a safe, clean, attractive learning environment, taking responsibility for the
maintenance, security, health and safety of the academy site (including grounds, buildings, facilities and
equipment), ensuring that they operate efficiently and effectively.
Main Areas of Responsibility
„h To be fully engaged in ensuring the Academy health and safety and other related policies are fully
adhered to;
„h To carry out servicing, cleaning and checking of Academy vehicles within capabilities;
„h To provide technical and craft support to teaching staff as directed by the Principal;
„h To provide site security as required;
„h To report any poor or dangerous behaviour by students to the Principal;
„h To report any potentially hazardous actions by staff to the Principal immediately;
„h To maintain, decorate and repair the Academy premises where appropriate;
„h To liaise with and support external contractors on site, ensuring supervision at all times;
„h Maintain the Academy grounds, keep site clear of litter and empty bins regularly (at least once a day);
„h Monitor the toilets for cleanliness and replenish soap, toilet tissue, roller towels as necessary;
„h Regularly tour around the Academy, keeping corridors free from litter;
„h Assist in maintaining the Academy grounds;
„h To lock/secure both side and back gates as required;
„h Assist site maintenance in the removal of furniture eg. for exams and Academy events;
„h Report to the Principal, any lights that need replacing, graffiti or any broken fixtures and fittings;
„h Being vigilant for any health and safety hazards, mitigating risk immediately and appropriately and
reporting this to the Principal as soon as is possible;
„h To be responsible for ensuring that any ¡§accidents¡¨, sickness or spillages are promptly cleaned,
disinfected and made safe;
„h To complete any tasks as reasonably requested by the Principal.
Health and Safety
„h To ensure that the sites and building comply with highest levels of security with regard to safeguarding
before, after and during hours with direction from the Principal and Estates Manager.
„h To ensure health and safety systems and processes that are site or buildings related are of high quality
with direction from the Principal and Estates Manager;
„h To report to the Principal and the Health and Safety Committee on buildings and site related safety;
„h To regularly inspect the condition and quality of the premises taking action to address any issues that
arise;
„h To manage the security and opening/closing of the building with direction from the Principal and Estates
Manager
„h To be responsible for security systems and the security of the academy, liaising closely with the Principal
and Estates Manager
In addition to the above, the post holder may also hold the position of a Deputy Health and Safety Adviser
for the academy in liaison with the Resources Director and Estates Manager:
The duties placed on the Deputy Health and Safety Adviser include:
Advice and assistance to management in:
„h Investigating potential hazards at a workplace.
„h Investigating complaints relating to a person's health and safety at work.
Providing information on all accidents of a serious nature and of any dangerous occurrences:
„h Preparing guidelines for a survey of all work area and installations.
„h Considering the need to amend or amplify existing safety policy or instructions.
The proper interpretation of the practical implications of all health and safety legislation in conjunction
with the Estates Manager and Resources Director:
„h Maintaining central records relating to accidents or dangerous occurrences and monitor action taken.
„h Dissemination of safety information to area representatives.
„h Acting as an escort to HSE inspectors.
„h Ensuring that appropriate safety audits are regularly undertaken and actioned.
