Responsibilities will include: 1. Modelling high ethical standards and
ensuring that organisational and day-to-day policies are properly
applied, and to provide proper management and support of all staff and
volunteers. 2. To exercise financial stewardship and ensure that
effective procedures are implemented and that all the Society's resources
are properly managed. 3. To manage fundraising, and sponsorship
activities and to ensure that funds are applied to meet the aims of the
organisation. 4. To ensure compliance with all aspects of Charitable Law
and to carry out regular audits to confirm that the Society is operating
legally and meeting best practice. 5. Working with Trustees in strategic
planning and leadership and to ensure that the Trustees receive
information and advice in a timely, organised and appropriate manner. 6.
To develop appropriate contingencies to manage loss of key staff and
volunteers. 7. Develop and maintain good external relationships and to
act as spokesperson and advocate for the Society. 8. Ensure that projects
are managed and delivered efficiently and are properly monitored and
evaluated. 9. To direct the policies of the Society in accordance with
the written Constitution and the direction of the Council (Trustees).
Working with Trustees To work effectively with the Chair: • To see that
the Trustees formulate and regularly review the organisation's vision and
values. • To develop and implement plans and strategies with the Trustees
in order to ensure delivery and high performance. • To be responsible to
the Trustees for the overall financial health of the organisation. • To
ensure that the Society has the human, material and financial resources
it needs to operate effectively. • To take appropriate steps to protect
the Society from risks. • To ensure that the Society fulfils its
constitutional, regulatory and legal obligations. • To ensure that the
organisation has the right management systems and structures in place to
carry out its work effectively and safely. Financial Strategy and
Management • To manage financial operations of the organisation in line
with the budget agreed and set by the Trustees. • To achieve targets for
earned income identified in the budget to be generated and reviewed
regularly with staff and Trustees. • To review funding opportunities and
to develop proposals, to increase revenue and commercial sponsorship
income. • Ensure that business and annual plans are developed, agreed and
implemented against the annual budget as approved by Trustees. • Monitor
and review grant agreements with funding and sponsorship bodies to ensure
that terms of agreements are met. • Monitor existing projects in
conjunction with staff and to ensure that projects are delivered in line
with expectations, on time and on budget. • To provide executive
expertise in all financial and operating functions. Person Specification
Experience and Qualifications • Experience in a senior management
position at a strategic level; • Degree level or equivalent; • Experience
of finance monitoring, planning, budgeting, and accounting and ability to
interpret financial information; • Experience of translating strategic
decisions into operational targets and ability to communicate and
implement the key decisions made by Trustees; • Experience of
establishing sustainable financial and development plans; Skills and
Knowledge • Dynamic problem solving approach; • Good negotiating skills,
with an understanding of the issues around partnership working. • Good
people skills with an ability to communicate well at all levels; •
Knowledge and experience of how to plan for, implement and manage change;
• Knowledge of how to set out targets, monitor and assess impact and
ensure continuous improvement and quality of services; • Skills to
interpret and communicate key financial information, risks, potential and
sustainability; • Knowledge and understanding of quality customer service
and diversity issues; Essential IT Skills A high level of competency
using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. • Knowledge and experience of
software procurement including:- a) management of software vendor
relationships; b) management of the installation of new software; c)
management of upgrading existing systems. • Managing strategic
development software assets such as databases, websites and office tools.
• Be able to deploy assets to achieving goals and to be able to
communicate intentions, progress and plans to stakeholders; • Demonstrate
an understanding of social media channels, how they contribute to the
Society and how to assess their impact. Desirable IT Skills • Knowledge
of on-line payment and purchase, stock management, dispute resolution,
refunds and PCI principles; • An understanding of Business Continuity
Process planning and management in a digital environment; • Knowledge of
office networking and networking protocols; • Experience of training and
mentoring in the use of MS Office tools and database technologies
