About the role

As our Expert Developer, you'll be responsible for leading on the creation of innovative solutions that meet the changing demands of the business and emerging industry trends and standards. You'll be the pinnacle of expertise regarding all aspects of software development within the pod. This role differentiates itself from pure engineering roles as it also has a strong grasp of, and participates in, the wider business and commercial considerations relating to software engineering.

Using your development knowledge and commercial awareness, you'll be responsible for the development within a self-managed team; for leading on team initiatives, coaching, driving standards, improvements, and innovation within your pod.

Our team

As our Expert Developer, you'll be proactively reinforcing our engineering strategy, application architecture and component design as well as our engineering principles, practices and standards. The team could be up to 20 people, with a mixture of expert testers, developers and developer in tests. You'll look after roughly 2 projects a year.

Who you will be

We want to make sure you're set for success, so the key skills we are looking for in the role are:

+ a degree level qualification or equivalent experience in software engineering or related discipline
+ expert in agile software engineering methodologies and processes with a high level of experience defining and implementing software through the software development lifecycle
+ experience of evaluating and selecting development tools and technologies
+ significant experience in the software development industry
+ any professional qualification around technology and process to fulfil the role would be useful (e.g. MCP, SCRUM, SAFe)
+ excellent judgement and latitude in decision making
+ superb design and architectural skills and experience
+ expert level programming skills and competence in a number of languages and technologies including, but not limited to, C# and SQL
+ excellent communication and leadership skills at all levels across the organisation
