Electronics Technician - Design Support, PCB Rework

What we're looking for:

+ Min 3 years relevant experience
+ Must be able to solder, including PCB rework and surface mount components
+ HNC or equivalent in Electronics
+ GCSE grade C or above in Maths & English with some Microsoft office tool experience

Who we are:

We are a small electronics contracting company based in Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire about a 5 minute drive from Milton Park business and science park. We have been running since 2009 providing hardware, Firmware and software design services for a wide range of customers. Recent projects range from a simple HDMI breakout test fixture up to a multi-DSP optical system interrogator used in an aerospace application. We have found with the range of projects that we are asked to be involved with that life as an Electronics design consultant is always interesting, particularly, being so closely involved with our customers aspirations.

Where we currently need to expand is in having an experienced and focused technician that would like to work in an ever interesting and challenging environment. You would work closely with our engineers, various customers as well as needing to work independently and on your own initiative.

The right candidate will have a strong, positive work ethic with a conscientious approach.

The Electronics Technician Role:

You would play a crucial role in our team, mainly responsible for:

+ PCB assembly & rework
+ Procurement & inventory management
+ Testing / commissioning of prototype and pre-production hardware, including documentation
+ Lab support activities – component stocking, tool storage and management
+ Prototype design testing, including test development
+ As well as opportunities to develop hardware and software design skills

Electronics Technician Skills Required:

As a minimum the successful candidate will have 3 years’ experience in the following areas:

+ SMD soldering skills on small components (eg 0402s / fine pitch QFNs), use of hot air pencils, hot plates etc,
+ Cable assembly skills (use of crimp tools, wire cutters and associated hand tools),
+ Using test equipment such as bench power supplies, multi-meters, oscilloscopes,
+ Able to follow hardware design schematics.

Qualifications:

As a minimum we are looking for the successful candidate to have the following:

+ HNC (or equivalent) in Electronic engineering,
+ English and maths GCSE grade C, with good written English,
+ Experience of Microsoft office tools such as Word and Excel.

Any experience with PCB CAD tools would also be useful but is not essential.

While we would expect the ideal candidate to be self-sufficient in areas they have significant experience we would also expect them to readily seek assistance where issues arise within a piece of work. Seeking assistance is critical for us to be able to maintain the level of service to our customers that they expect from us.

Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary that will be based on the candidate’s experience. We also offer a work place pension, flexible working and 28 days annual holiday.
