Principal / Associate Environmental Consultant Location: Leeds, Sheffield or Manchester
Our client is looking to recruit a Principal / Associate Environmental Consultant with practical experience of coordinating major environmental impact assessments (EIA), strategic environmental assessments (SEA) and general environmental management to join their Water, Environment & Infrastructure team
Following years of continued success and growth, the successful candidate will be part of a close-knit, progressive Environmental Team and will work closely with a range of in-house technical specialists to support delivery of a variety of projects in the Water, Rail, Highways and Tunnels divisions. Working closely with the Environment Agency, HS2, Local Authorities and other leading national and international infrastructure providers, the role will entail agreeing and managing scopes of work, the timely delivery of programmes, the management of project finances and competent provision of project deliverables. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully balancing the management of large EIAs with business development as well as effectively managing, supporting and developing more junior staff.
Specific Requirements
As part of your role you will be asked to lead the environmental element of large projects, from feasibility to detailed design and construction, with particular regards to the environmental assessment process, providing expert advice, applying for consents and the submission of planning applications.
The successful candidate will be will be an experienced professional, with a proven track record of delivering large EIAs as well as successful business development; they will be a strong team player with first-class organisation and communication skills and a keen eye for detail.
A comprehensive understanding of relevant UK environmental legislation and planning processes as well as a broad understanding of the requirements across all the major EIA disciplines is essential.
You should be educated to degree level in an environmental or scientific discipline and will have achieved chartered status of a recognised professional body. In particular the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience of:
* Leading the successful delivery of large EIA projects, as well as packages of work, ideally in the infrastructure sector
* Managing teams of experts and working in multi-disciplinary teams
* Experience in prescribing and implementing mitigation measures for large and complex projects
* ensuring first and second line of assurance of technical content
* Delivering projects as per clients strict time, cost and quality requirements
* Financial and programme management
* Building client relationships
* Successful business development, tendering work winning
* Stakeholder engagement and consultation with statutory bodies
* Scoping and specifying technical impact assessment work
* Line management and mentoring of junior staff
* Working within a team and motivate others to deliver to high standards;
* Providing expert guidance to clients, government agencies, regulators and other relevant bodies, having regard for environmental / sustainable approaches and best practice solutions;
* Communicating scientific and technical information to relevant audiences in an appropriate form, via reports, workshops, educational events, public hearings.
* Having a thorough knowledge of relevant UK environmental legislation, EIA/SEA and Environmental Agency and planning processes and a broad understanding of the technical specialisms required for EIA/SEA
* Excellent communication skills
* strong written, verbal and presentational skills;
* be effective at working remotely;
* Be flexible, adaptable and prepared to take on new challenges
* Have a full and clean UK/EEC driving licence; and
* Have an interest in developing technical skills as part of ongoing career development.
