We are currently expanding our core technical team through the addition of a Development Scientist to enable us to accelerate our new product development activities. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a technically demanding and rewarding environment as an integral part of the strong technical team.

The Development Scientist Opportunity:

This position will be responsible for the build, assembly, test and development of our laser spectroscopy systems, including prototypes and production versions. The ideal candidate will work as part of a cross-functional technical team and play an active role in all aspects of product development.

Principal Responsibilities:

+ Develop existing and new laser spectroscopy instruments for gas sensing applications 
+ Assemble optical instruments from scratch, handle optical components, characterise lasers, optics, sub-assemblies and the overall system 
+ Conduct comprehensive instrument testing as per test plan and generate test and technical reports for internal and external use
+ Contribute and implement improvements to the instrument in terms of optical design, system performance and ease of manufacturing 
+ Investigate and troubleshoot any issues relating to product assembly and testing 
+ Collaborate with the Business Development team on evaluating the technical feasibility of new potential applications
+ Provide support for all stages of the product development lifecycle: R&D, Production and Field Service

Skills & Experience:

+ Qualified to MSc. or higher in Optics/Optical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Physical Sciences or related discipline with experience in hardware development 
+ 1 year of industrial experience in a related field would be advantageous
+ General knowledge of lasers, optomechanics, electro-optics and optics
+ Proven expertise in handling and assembling optics, opto-mechanics, lasers and related electronics
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
+ Additional desirable skills - Good working knowledge of MATLAB/Python/other data analysis software, SolidWorks, FEA package
