Purpose and Objectives

The Social Media and Marketing Officer is responsible for promoting the Museum, its sister heritage visitor attraction the City of Caves, the Museum's education programme, and other commercial activities. The post holder will be responsible for producing PR, media relations, social media, and creative marketing output that will increase visitors and income. They will develop and manage multi-channel marketing communications plans promoting the Museum's core service offer.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research, develop and implement evidence-based strategies with the Director of Marketing and Communications in order to raise brand awareness, secure media coverage, and increase visitor numbers across all Museum activities: heritage, educational and commercial.
  • Develop the Museum's social media output and multimedia capability to support more meaningful conversations with key audiences and increase followers.
  • Produce written content for all online platforms, while alongside the Digital Media and Marketing Officer, maintaining and updating existing content, and ensuring SEO.
  • Work closely with the Museum's departments and senior management team and develop an internal bulletin, generate and write compelling content, and manage its distribution.
  • Work closely with the Museum's Hospitality and Events Sales Manager to develop multi-channel campaigns and social media strategies promoting commercial activity, and also to assist in the delivery of commercial activities.
  • Work closely with the Digital Media and Marketing Officer to design and produce impactful traditional and online materials as part of marketing campaigns throughout the year.
  • Produce reports for key stakeholders and the senior management team on marketing communications performance across all channels.
  • Use analytics to monitor the effectiveness of marketing activity, and report on performance as part of an ongoing process of evaluation and development.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative audience insight and data in the development of marketing activities and materials, and press strategies.
  • Maintain and develop the Museum's core databases, adhering to General Data Protection Regulations at all times.
  • Ensure regular updating of promotional material on core third party partner websites.
  • Maintain the image library, archiving old images and updating new. Ensure that image release policy, copyright and data protection law are adhered to at all times.
  • Horizon scan using local and national media and social media to identify opportunities and threats related to corporate reputation.
  • Monitor social media and online outputs and maintain a daily media digest to ensure the Museum responds quickly and appropriately to public comment.
  • Undertake any other duties relevant to the role that may be allocated by the Director of Marketing and Communications, or member of the Senior Management Team.

Person specification

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Minimum three years marketing experience, or CIM/CIPR qualification.
  • Ability to develop compelling content and publications.
  • A track record of devising and implementing creative marketing campaigns with a social media focus.
  • A track record of successfully selling in and placing news stories at regional and national level.
  • A track record of increasing public engagement and income through integrated PR/marketing campaigns.
  • A track record for developing and managing social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, You Tube, Google+ and Linked In.
  • Up-to-date knowledge, understanding and expertise in digital marketing.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work out of normal working hours when required.
