Do you have the personality and confidence it takes to stand up in front of groups of young people and talk about gang life and serious crime? Are you ready for a working life that's varied and rewarding and provides an opportunity for both personal and professional growth? Then join us as a Youth Groupwork Facilitator and you could soon be putting your experience of positively engaging with offenders or other vulnerable groups to excellent use.

A well-established charity that helps ex-offenders and disadvantaged people to move their lives forward, St. Giles Trust offers support to help people overcome any issues that might be holding them back. Our award-winning SOS+ service offers intensive support to vulnerable young people in the criminal justice system and those exposed to, or at risk of violence, vulnerability or exploitation. Our work also encompasses gang crime, family support and child exploitation and aims to help make the communities we serve a safer place for everyone. It's here that we need your invaluable skills and experience.

What you'll be doing:

  • Delivering structured sessions on knife crime, gangs, exploitation and other issues to groups of young people in schools, YOTs and other settings and providing support to a small caseload of referred clients.
  • Helping the SOS Business Development Manager and SOS+ Coordinator to develop sessions and facilitate sessions/assemblies and interactive workshops.
  • Liaising with managers and partner agencies to ensure a high quality service is delivered to schools and communities.
  • Promoting the service to schools and communities and assisting with providing monitoring information and evaluating the project.
  • Complying with relevant safeguarding requirements, making sure systems are in place to protect the confidentiality of clients.

And what you'll need:

  • A proven ability to work on an offender-led project/exposure to the criminal justice system/experience of serving a prison sentence or currently serving a sentence within a prison in the area and eligible for ROTL.
  • Experience of delivering/facilitating sessions to groups - especially socially excluded young people - and providing them with support, advice and advocacy.
  • A firm grasp of the relevant policies and legislation involved in working with the relevant age group and the ability to assess clients, calculate risk and implement safety procedures when engaging with them.
  • Knowledge of services for offenders and patterns of offending in certain areas, the ability to recognise signs of child sexual exploitation and an understanding of and commitment to safeguarding practices and policies.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to work with a case database and use and develop monitoring systems to record all aspects of a project, including actions, outcomes and referrals.
  • The ability to travel around the South East frequently.

In return you can expect a competitive salary and generous leave allowance, staff pension scheme, flexible working, a mentoring programme, an advice & counseling service, season ticket loan and much more besides.
