Our client, a global legal firm, is seeking a Paralegal to join the Structured Professional Indemnity team.

Overview:

This team receives work from various professional Indemnity insurers in the UK market, across different lines of business (including negligence claims against solicitors, surveyors and financial professionals etc).

This is a unique team which is not expected to conform to the existing law firm paradigm. Working with the team leader and other team members, you will be responsible for building and shaping it for the future, embedding principles of lean and efficient working, and establishing the culture, values and behaviours that make it an attractive and viable alternative route to a career in law.

Day to day work duties:

Management of a caseload of professional indemnity claims matters under supervision of a Senior Associate;

Such cases to be primarily defence instructions with quantum of GBP0-GBP50,000, both pre-action and in litigation;

Team members will be responsible for all aspects of handling the matters, including acknowledgment of instructions, investigation, reporting to clients, drafting letters of response/correspondence to other parties, instructing Counsel and dealing with the various steps involved in a litigated case (usually within fast track but with the scope for some multi-track).

Paralegals are expected to contribute to the development of the team by:

Delivering high quality and timely output to clients

Working to develop an environment of constant improvement:

Capturing and collating required MI in accordance with agreed practice - for performance management, client reporting, SLAs, pricing and other purposes.

Contributing to the development and improvement of the team's service, support, processes and procedures.

Required Skills/Experience:

A minimum of 1 year's experience as a Paralegal to be considered for this role

Law degree or GDL

A good working knowledge of law firm operations and pressures; understanding the need for efficient, timely, cost-effective support

Confident, with strong written and verbal communication skills

Commitment - willingness to turn a hand to whatever tasks are needed to meet the team's aims

Hardworking, enthusiastic and motivated

Commercially aware, with an understanding of the concepts of efficiency

Keen attention to detail

Organised and efficient

Ability to deal with difficult or demanding situations

Confident use of MS Office

Essential:

Previous paralegal experience within a contentious environment
