To support our growth, we are seeking an experienced Senior GIS Technician to join our team in South West London on a long-term contract or permanent basis. The Senior GIS Tech will be responsible for furthering the technical capabilities of the Geospatial Environment (One Map). The position responsibilities include the design, development, configuration, and implementation of technical geospatial solutions. Major responsibilities include evaluating upgrade paths for GIS technologies, developing custom scripts for management and monitoring of GIS systems, evaluating opportunities to enhance or optimize geospatial technical workflows, troubleshoot performance problems on existing infrastructure, manage SDE database activities, and support business users with advanced technical requests. This position requires strong coordination and cooperation with GIS technical resources scattered between different regions.

Role Responsibilities;

  • Assist and advise the GIS Support Team to deploy custom applications and widgets from 3rd party vendors, interact with ESRI representatives, and assist with FME and Python workflows
  • Coordinate with various regions on GIS technical activities
  • Deploy and maintain geospatial applications and support existing and newly developed applications
  • Manage SDE on Oracle database maintenance and tuning tasks
  • Advise business users and other staff on recommended standards as well as tuning and optimization options for ArcGIS Server Services
  • Maintain and create Portal, ArcGIS Server, and SDE level Python scripts
  • Manage and maintain complex FME jobs and workflows
  • Manage FME Server deployment
  • Write and manage standards for GIS system usage from both business and it standpoints
  • Work with the GIS Support team to assist in troubleshooting complex issues relating to ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS
  • Prepare detailed analysis and design; plans; diagrams and verification procedures for existing and proposed computer processes
  • Work with GIS Architects to plan and coordinate technical workflows for the Geospatial systems
  • Ensure the planning of relevant security patches and ensure application performance tuning
  • Assist in the generation or installation of systems software

Key Requirements;

  • ArcGIS for Server minimum version 10.3
  • Portal for ArcGIS minimum version 10.3
  • ArcMap/ArcCatalog minimum version 10.2
  • Enterprise (Active Directory) authentication methods in Portal and Server
  • Federation between ArcGIS Server and Portal
  • ArcSDE maintenance techniques
  • Oracle including client and server side technologies
  • GeoEvent Processor Plugin for ArcGIS for Server
  • Spotfire and Spotfire Web Player
  • FME Workbench/FME Server
  • Windows Server 2012 Operating System Configurations
  • Basic knowledge of Virtualization technologies and blade based hardware configurations
  • Python Scripting (PortalPy and ArcPy)
  • Knowledge of IIS and Tomcat Web Host Technologies
  • Strong understanding of problem solving techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to both technical and non-technical resources

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, communications, GIS Technologies, or a related field is generally preferred.
  • Experience in geospatial systems analysis
  • Six years of experience working with ESRI tools and applications
  • Education and experience may be substituted for one another

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of direct experience working with ESRI GIS Tools and applications (focus on server side technologies)
  • 5+ years of system infrastructure and/or software development experience
  • 2+ years working with FME and or Python
  • 1+ year experience working with Spotfire
  • 1+ year experience with OpenSpirit
