Facilities Assistant

Full time salary: £16,308 – £20,059 per annum / 37hr week

Calderdale College is the largest provider of further education (post-16) courses, work-based learning (Apprenticeships) and the sole provider of higher education awards in Calderdale, and currently in the top 5% of College’s in the UK for 16-18 student success. 

We are seeking to appoint a Facilities Assistant to join our successful team, responsible for maintenance, portering and security services support within the College estate. This will include working on a shift rota between 7am-9.30pm with occasional weekend work. Duties include following a planned maintenance schedule and working from the College helpdesk, carrying out minor repairs, escalating as required, delivering post, portering, room setups, grounds maintenance and other manual handling tasks. The role will also involve occasional work from heights.

The post holder will also be required to open/lock-up the buildings, de-activate and activate alarms, patrol the College premises, carry out ID checks, monitor the CCTV system and assist in maintaining order and discipline and defusing potentially volatile situations, in line with College procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing an excellent customer service experience to all students, staff and visitors of the College and ideally suit someone with experience of maintenance works and security provision in a customer focussed environment.

The post holder must be able to work as part of a team, be self-motivated, possess excellent customer service, communication, time management and organisational skills, with a ‘can do’ approach and a determination to succeed and see problems through to a solution.

Key qualities sought:

  • Experience in a facilities/security or other similar role
  • Experience of working from an online helpdesk
  • Ability to use small electrical hand tools and carrying out minor repairs
  • An evident ‘positive’ and ‘can do’ attitude to strengthen the Colleges’ culture and values of integrity, respect, openness, fairness, high expectation and enjoyment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve deadlines
  • A good standard of education including Literacy and Numeracy to Level 2 and ideally SIA licenced, or willing to undertake
