The RGS is one of the most prestigious schools in the country and, since its foundation in 1509, has established a national reputation for academic excellence and single-sex education. The RGS Grounds Team is based at the schools playing fields Bradstone Brook in Chilworth near Guildford and regularly undertakes work in the gardens and grounds of the RGS and Lanesborough Preparatory Schools in Guildford.
We are seeking to appoint a full time enthusiastic Grounds person/Gardener to join our busy grounds team looking after 38 acres of sports playing fields, gardens and lawns located over all three sites of the RGS and Lanesborough school.
Duties include assisting with the preparation and maintenance of rugby/football pitches, marking out lines, preparing cricket wickets, maintaining and re-planting of borders, hedge cutting, pruning shrubs and roses, keeping garden areas and grounds to high standards while working in accordance to all safety standards as directed by the Grounds Manager
The successful candidate should be self-motivated and have at least one year’s experience working within the turf culture/gardening/landscaping industry. An understanding and experience using pedestrian and hand held machinery and their basic service requirements is essential.
Good communication skills are required alongside the ability to work well on your own or as part of a team.
Industry recognised qualifications are desirable, however, training will be provided for the right person.
