Exeter Mathematics School (EMS) is a unique 6th form, created to meet the needs of enthusiastic Mathematics students throughout the South West. Jointly sponsored by the University of Exeter and Exeter College and opened in September 2014, the school is a vibrant community in which students' needs are at the centre. 

The school environment is such that high levels of academic challenge are coupled with equally high levels of support to enable students to thrive and achieve beyond the norm.  A large number of students have a long and tiring commute, whilst others live in school accommodation from Monday to Friday.  Many students have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). 

The student support officer will work closely with the Deputy Headteacher and pastoral team and will fulfil a crucial role in ensuring all students are given the help they need towards becoming independent.  The post holder will be required to work flexibly, responding to students’ needs whilst maintaining accurate records and ensuring no student falls between the cracks.

The successful candidate will relate well to students and members of staff, will be capable of dealing with complex and difficult situations, will be willing to take instruction and follow school processes, and will be committed to the highest levels of professional conduct.  A sunny disposition will certainly help and the ability to complete training whilst in the role is vital. 

Working hours will be 18.5 per week, to take place during the school daytime, spread across three consecutive days.
