Opus Engineering are recruiting for a Design Manager to work for its client based in Plymouth.

Position: Mechanical Design Manager

Location: Plymouth

Department: R&D

Responsibilities:
  • Taking a flexible and open minded approach, plan and control projects as agreed with the R&D Manager from concept to production release in line with company ISO procedures, ensuring products are fit for purpose and within budget.
  • Help identify to the project team during the planning stages and throughout a project, factors effecting its successful completion.
  • Prepare project documentation before, during and after a development. eg specifications, BOM's, test schedules, test reports, training guides, service manuals.
  • Provide novel and innovative solutions to design requirements and design/product issues.
  • Liaise with suppliers, in partnership with Purchasing, on technical issues faced by the supplier and to source new components ensuring an acceptable supply chain can be maintained in Production.
  • Guide other engineers in the appropriate methods required to ensure their designs meet the required cost, quality, safety, legislative, reliability & aesthetic parameters.
  • Review and experiment with new technologies and assess their suitability for inclusion in to current or future products.
  • Constantly reviewing with the R&D manager procedures and processes to improve the quality of products at the design & development stage.
  • Work closely with colleagues to provide technical support as required.
  • Manage Health and Safety within the Engineering Workshop.
  • Ensure the department is kept in a tidy condition to ensure maximum impact on visitors to the company.
  • Liaise with Personnel on all matters relating to employees.
  • Design, develop and test products. Ensuring that the design meets the required cost, quality, safety, legislative, reliability and aesthetic parameters.
  • Complete verification and validation process's and reports on the designed products and the systems within which they integrate.
