Our client is a Further Education College offering a wide range of courses to over 5000 full time students and over 5650 part time students each year. The college currently works with over 50 high school partners, welcoming students from Bury and the surrounding areas.
They now have an opportunity available for a Financial Accountant to join them to provide technical financial support to the Head of Finance and the Finance Team in a way which complies with financial and audit regulations so that the objectives of the College and the team are achieved. This is a part time role for 24 hours per week over 3 days.
Providing analysis and advice on the potential implications of proposed changes in accounting policies, you will support the Head of Finance in the production of the annual statutory accounts and regularity audit and complete the 3 year financial plan model; supporting the management accountant on the budget setting process.
Producing the balance sheet and guaranteeing that the related reconciliations are produced by the team on a monthly basis, you must ensure that any reconciling items are understood and cleared in a timely manner for the Head of Finance to review whilst taking responsibility for overseeing the asset register including disposals, additions, depreciation, forecasting, correct classification and monthly reconciliation.
You must also monitor funding on deferred capital grants and complete periodic financial returns to the relevant funding body and oversee College projects, preparing the necessary reports and producing the relevant recharges.
Candidates for this role must be AAT qualified or Part Qualified (or QBE), with proven experience of carrying out significant financial reporting in a similar sized organisation. With an understanding of Financial Reporting Standards and their application and the ability to demonstrate up to date technical financial reporting knowledge, you should be capable of maintaining asset records and associated accounting treatments; any experience of treatment of grants and accounting for pensions in local authority is desirable.
