ROLE: Test Technician, Mechanical,
SALARY: up to GBP25k
HOURS OF WORK: 36 hours a week. Core Hours: Mon-Thurs (09.30-16.00), Fri (09.30-15.00)
THE ROLE:
A Manchester based business who were set up over 60 years ago and are experiencing a period of continued growth from being the leaders in what they do, but also shrewd acquisitions that have been relevant for their specific industry are looking to recruit a Test Technician who will be testing Mechanical parts for an electronic product.
The owner of the business is hugely passionate about ensuring that their products are the most technically advanced, aesthetically pleasing and practical to use for the end user, as a result the investment in the engineering function, within electronics, software, mechanical and test has been remarkable. I personally have been involved in the recruitment of over 30 engineering professionals to this business in the past 5 years, and these have been NEW headcounts, very rarely for churn.
The role the business is currently looking to fill is within the Product Improvement team, which is managed by someone who started with the business 14 years ago, starting as a Technician and rising to Manager, there are genuine opportunities for advancement for talented individuals. The team have an extensive knowledge of the products, so will be able to help the individual settle in and provide advice to hit the ground running with the work. Currently there are 4 people in the Support and Improvement team, 3 Hardware focussed & 1 Software focussed with the need for a more mechanically focussed engineer, to work on mechanical test and improvement,
The current requirement needs an individual that has tested the mechanical parts of the product, rather than the electronic parts of the product. If they have tested mechanical parts of an electronic product this is a nice to have but my no means essential.
In this role, the Test Technician with mechanical testing experience, will have an exciting opportunity to test a range of products (everyday will provide new challenges, as you will get opportunity to work on the full range of products).
Part of the role will be supporting the design team, testing brand new product developments. Other parts of the role will be mechanically testing products that are in the field and have been returned or need improving.
As the person responsible for testing the mechanical elements of the products, this individual will be required to create the required Test Jigs, and then record and monitor the results. An example of the type of testing that might be needed is testing the glue bond strength on a product where the glue holds in place a measuring probe. The test technician from a mechanical background, will be required to build the Test Jig to test the glue strength under various conditions. After carrying out the testing & analysing the results, design improvements are to be suggested and discussed with the team.
This role is well suited to an individual who likes to be kept busy and enjoys on working on different challenges each day.
It would be well suited to a Test Technician of a Junior Mechanical Engineer who wants to get involved in the testing side of the business. There could be the opportunity to use CAD skills if the individual has this.
