Two exciting opportunities have arisen within West Suffolk Councils’ and we are looking for very ambitious and progressive individuals to join us as we embark on an exciting time. Working on a full time permanent basis, you will receive a competitive starting salary of between £24,657 - £25,463 per annum depending on qualifications/experience (potentially rising to £29,909 through annual Performance Review awards).

St. Edmundsbury Borough Council and Forest Heath District Council are two authorities with a reputation for being forward thinking and innovative. By sharing services under the title of West Suffolk they are taking an increased commercial approach to changes in the public sector environment and have a wide range of exciting initiatives underway. With effect from 1 April 2019 we will become a single council and will be known as West Suffolk Council.

The Planning Officer Roles

We are looking for hardworking and confident individual ideally with a planning/planning enforcement background, however, we would welcome applications from those with regulatory/relevant experience and the desire to become a Planning Enforcement Officer or to become a qualified Planning Officer on a career progression basis.

For the Planning Officer role you will be expected to deal with a range of applications for planning permission and other consents, as well as dealing with pre-application enquiries and appeals.  For the Planning Enforcement Officer role you will be expected to deal with a range of planning related complaints and breaches of planning control, as well as assisting the Planning Enforcement team with more complex cases involving appeals, proceedings and direct action.  

As with all our posts, drive, determination, hardworking and a forward thinking attitude is important.  Site visits are required in a large rural area and so the suitable candidates will need to hold a current driving licence and/or the ability to travel around West Suffolk.

The office base for these posts will be Bury St Edmunds and Mildenhall, with flexibility expected as work requirements dictate.
