University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust invites social workers experienced in children’s work to apply for a part time Locum position, fixed term (ending March 2019) in Paediatric Endocrinology. We hope that after March 2019 there will be opportunities available to create an extended post.  

The present post, available immediately after selection, checks and contracting, combines a role within the paediatric multi-professional team for families affected by Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease) with a role within the multiprofessional team for paediatric obesity. These are two specialist services where social work support to families is highly valued by the team.

The University Hospitals Bristol Endocrine Service leads in the provision of specialist care for patients with Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Obesity working both within the acute hospital and the community.

This an exciting opportunity for a specialist social worker to work across both services providing support, advice and guidance to patients and their families, enabling them to manage practical issues relating to their health. The specialist social worker will work within the hospital and community settings.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication and organisational skills, who is able to work well within a multi professional team utilising their autonomy and social work expertise. You will work closely as part of the Endocrine team and be supported by a psychology social lead within the trust. Experience of working with patients and families with chronic illness would be desirable. However the candidate would need to be able to apply their existing experience and knowledge to patients and families with complex needs.

This unique role will provide the opportunity to extend your skills, knowledge and experience within a specialist area of social work with the full support of a specialist multi professional Endocrine team.
