Where and who?

Reporting directly to the South Glos Services Manager, you will be based at Southwold House Hostel In Yate as part of the Southwold House Hostel team  and our wider South Glos Services Team.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the delivery of a new service for 1625ip, motivating and supporting a team of dedicated workers. You will take the lead in providing comprehensive housing management and high-quality support services for residents at Southwold House, a medium to low support hostel based in Yate providing short-term supported accommodation (up to 2 years) for homeless young people (including care leavers).

Together with the South Glos Services and Participation & Learning Team Managers, you will support the integration of our wider engagement and learning and mentoring and participation offer, ensuring young people are encouraged to access opportunities, achieve their goals and aspirations and generally thrive!

You will be well supported in your work by the South Glos Services Manager and our wider highly successful South Glos services, as well as our central support services including maintenance, rents, HR and finance teams

Our work is rooted in providing support in a Psychologically Informed Environment framework known as PIE. The team are very supportive of each other and through reflective practice we are always learning from our own and each other’s experiences.

 A typical day will include:

  • Supporting, motivating and supervising staff, ensuring the effective and timely allocation of support and maintaining a responsive service for young people with diverse and complex needs.
  • Supporting the team in the implementation of psychologically informed support, enabling young people to develop trusting relationships and develop belief in their ability to thrive, achieve what’s important to them and move-forward positively
  • Enabling young people to be involved in and have a voice in service and organisational development
  • Responding to incidents and safeguarding concerns, liaising with key partners to ensure the safety and wellbeing of young people and staff.

About you

You have empathy and understanding of the needs of homeless young people, young people leaving care, and the barriers they face. You like being around and working with young people.

You have a flexible approach and are passionate about developing young people’s independence and their active involvement of young people in the organisation.

You have experience of working with vulnerable people and an ability to oversee the assessment of needs and risk, understand the implications and manage cases effectively.

You have an ability to deliver effective staff management within a hostel based accommodation service and are able to motivate and lead by example, enabling solutions for staff and young people.

You have excellent skills in housing management, including effective rents management and health and safety.
