We are looking for an organised and professional individual to provide ushering duties at Leeds Magistrates' Court. This is a unique and interesting role, carrying out effective and efficient administration and customer care support to the courts.
The role would involve:
Active duties such as ensuring courtroom layout is appropriate for the type of court
" Ensuring adequate supply of court forms and stationary, keeping public notice boards and advice leaflets up to date
" Checking and updating pre-court paperwork in preparation for court, completing court forms, reallocating cases between courts by liaising with legal advisors
" Providing refreshments to magistrates in the court and in the retiring room
" Distributing court lists to court users and collecting/delivering papers and messages between courts
" Recording the arrival of court users and providing customer care
" Deciding priority of cases to be called using guidelines
" Ensuring court users are coordinated, called and announced into court when required
" To administer oaths and affirmations within the court room
" To update court users on case progression and deal with court enquiries
" Dealing with minor disturbances and maintaining the dignity of the court
" General office/admin duties (collecting and delivering messages, letter writing, stock control, filing, printing/operating office equipment)
The ideal candidate would have the following:
" Excellent customer service skills and ability to speak confidently within the courtroom
" Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
" Ability to deal with challenging customers
" Excellent sickness record
" Ability to work under pressure
" Ability to multitask
" Quick learner
The successful candidate would also need to pass an Enhanced DBS record check.
