The Senior Manager – Strategic Projects, Insights and Governance shall manage Customer Underwriting Strategic Projects, Insights and Governance for NewDay Cards Ltd (NewDay)’s Credit Card business. The role encompasses several diverse activities, with a focus on the following areas;

  • working with Strategic Project teams across NewDay to support and ensure Customer Underwriting requirements and oversight are considered in both credit risk and non-credit risk related initiatives, including macro scenarios and action plans;
  • setting the standard for customer underwriting decision quality assurance, control and governance; and
  • preparing and analysing internal and external leading indicators at each level (Board, Committee and Business Unit) to identify early warning performance shortfalls, including macro triggers, scenarios and action plans.

Key responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • overhauling of Customer Underwriting MI reporting and 1LOD controls framework for greater risk and control management and credit performance insights to deliver actionable insights based on internal and external data sources and present clear insights to key stakeholders;
  • working with the NewDay central data team and third-party suppliers to enhance data insights and KPIs that enable report automation, report standardisation and benchmarks;
  • being responsible for partnering with various strategic project teams on strategic innovation initiatives such as developing and embedding new data and innovative credit modelling capabilities into customer underwriting decisions;
  • developing a best-in-market acquisition eco-system, including decision system optimisation in order to facilitate robust, flexible and dynamic decisioning;
  • ensuring all Process Owners are assigned across Customer Underwriting and ensuring oversight of all Key Processes to enable accurate and timely assessments of Risk & Controls are reported to the Operational Risk Committee;
  • being responsible for delivering a rolling programme of control enhancements that improve preventative controls, resolution and remediation actions (proportionality);
  • ensuring flawless execution of change through diligent reviews of test plans, test outcomes and live proving;
  • setting the standards with the Credit Decision System team for control governance of acquisition system and bureau architecture change; and
  • being expected to provide thought leadership by operating with high levels of integrity and control.

Criteria for selection

The candidate must possess the following attributes:

  • have knowledge of the credit card sector and products;
  • have relevant experience within a regulated financial services organisation;
  • have statistical experience and be familiar with modelling techniques;
  • have competent coding experience with a proven ability to extract relevant data and self-error spot to ensure data is correct using SAS or SQL;
  • have worked with commercial teams to drive a risk reward agenda;
  • have strong technical Excel knowledge modelling capability;
  • be able to construct from scratch complex Excel models for use in financial modelling;
  • be educated to university degree level or similar with a highly numerate and analytical background;
  • have excellent planning skills;
  • be able to anticipate challenges and be nimble towards change;
  • have a good logical and methodical approach to solving problems and be able to use these to drive change;
  • be able to work unsupervised with a high level of self-motivation to the highest standard within challenging deadlines;
  • be able to recruit and develop a high performing team to execute against the strategic plan;
  • significant experience in credit risk management and analytical roles;
  • have a strong understanding of credit risk function, particularly customer underwriting new account originations;
  • be able to discuss policies from a strong knowledge base;
  • be highly intellectual with commercial aptitude;
  • be able to influence and guide both peers and subordinates across a range of abilities and aptitude;
  • be able to drive multiple initiatives forward simultaneously; and
  • be able to analyse data, understand trends, apply commercial oversight to produce data inputs than can be used to model new partners.

Salary: £80,000 to £100,000 per annum
